I think tournament is a realistic expectation. Hell we were a couple wins away from doing that this season. We have some nice transfers coming in and are returning some important pieces.

Cannot have early season mishaps against small schools.

The only one that stayed was Mwani?

Setting up a lot of excuses and our program's history isn't a valid one since every coach since Dale has made the tourney at least once by the end of year 3.

Long-term program history is that we have never seriously been a threat to win a national championship and recent history is that basketball has been third fiddle (or worse) when it comes to resources and support for the last 20+ years.

You can argue about the hire of McMahon, but there is no argument about

1) The state and negativity surrounding the MBB program when he was hired.

2) The history of LSU's MBB program nationally.

3) LSU athletics and specifically MBB's place when it comes to providing top-tier NIL dollars on a consistent basis.

So wait, you honestly believe all those kids jumped in the portal and left because of McMahon and his acumen as a coach?

Everyone was here when he was hired. Thats all I said, this excuse that everyone left before he got here is false. You can lookup the dates, McMahon was hired on like March 20,21st, the portal didn’t even open for nearly a month after.

Who said anything about a NC?

Which part? The fans pissed we fired a well liked coach? Or the constant regurgitation from Dickie V and Pat Forde?

The history of LSU's MBB program nationally.
3 Final Fours and an additional Elite Eight? There are many schools that can’t claim that.

You have no idea how much NIL MBB has. Just making shite up.

This is not an excuse for a coach of the basketball program in an athletic department like LSU's, it's an indictment. The money is there, go fight for your piece of the it. That's part of the job now. Plenty coaches at SEC schools having to do the same and succeeding.

seems like McMahon is constructing his rosters here as though we're a mid-major. Heavy on guards but lack size and toughness down low.

Such a casual basketball fan take

I mean let's set realistic expectations given our program's history and resources and not some abstract "it has to be a big step forward".

Steady progress next season is what's needed. Anyone saying different is not serious about giving McMahon a fair shake

No, the expectations are set by the prior coach. We blew up the program so we could virtue signal to the NCAA and SEC, then you damn well better spend the money to get the program back to that point. It’s year 3 and we’re not even in the same ballpark as the prior staff.

As well as Miller. Replacing 9 players in the portal era isn’t that big of a deal.

This should be the most talent he has had. We need to see Big Improvement if there is to be any hope for this program. It is basically at the point that no one gives a Rats A$$ as it is.

I absolutely think roster construction is an issue the year zero folks skirt past conveniently. The recruiting/transfer gets have actually been fairly well rated, relatively speaking, but the lack of toughness is something that has been glaring IMHO.

That should be the goal without a doubt. If we stumble next year, I can see the excuses continuing too. It’s baffling.

I have real reservations about McMahon. He seems like a stand up guy but I do wonder if he’s in over his head here.

Year 2 of CMM allayed some of the Year 1 fears I had about CMM's abilities. But it is TALENT that wins big in NCAA MBB. We shall see if the talent in 24-25 can get us into tournament contention.

I'll be there as I have been since 1969 when I was a frosh at LSU. MBB/WBB are the sports my wife and Iove the most at LSU even though we also have fball and baseball season tickets.

Yet other coaches did it in year 1. I don’t buy this excuse.

Many in the Rant said he was trash and always would be after his first loss.

All the players left when Mac was hired because we were staring down the gun barrel of big time probation. If NIL hadn't happened, we would have been hammered by the NCAA. Mac's '24 class was just ranked # 10 by ESPN.
