Who thinks he makes the tournament?

Year three should be a defining year.

Man it’s year 2 according to woody, we just ignore the first year.

I’d love for McMahon to make the tourny but I don’t see it.

It has to be a big step forward

Look at what Brady was able to do in his 3rd year with a program that was actually in the gutter.

I mean let's set realistic expectations given our program's history and resources and not some abstract "it has to be a big step forward".

Steady progress next season is what's needed. Anyone saying different is not serious about giving McMahon a fair shake.

Also the program had zero players committed when he took over and was facing and had sanctions levied against it.

I mean if you can't see the reality that was faced when he took the job, the history of the program, and the reality of LSU basketball's position in the modern NIL landscape, seems difficult for you to define a BIG JUMP forward

Being in actual ncaa tournament discussion in march isnt realistic in year 3?

Like how we steadily progressed from dog water in year 1 to NIT last year? What’s the next step? Back to the NIT but hopefully avoid getting pantsed by a mid major at home?

I think rebounding is going to be an issue for this team again. It seems like McMahon is constructing his rosters here as though we're a mid-major. Heavy on guards but lack size and toughness down low.

It'll be interesting to see if he can get the transfer from Illinois, although he's not much of a rebounder either. I understand he may want to put together a roster that can get up and down the court, but not having anyone who can rebound and give you a nice presence in the paint is going to be a huge issue in the SEC, especially if we have games where we're struggling to make outside shots.

This is 100% true. This isn’t 1999 either with NIL and the transfer portal. When Brady took over LSU WAS found guilty and had sanctions/penalties.

McMahon has had unlimited opportunities and there are programs that were in as bad or worse shape than LSU that turned around the last 2 seasons. This is NOT rocket science and let’s face the reality that he may just be stop gap until when Woody is fired for budget mismanagement issues. Basketball is the second largest money generator and needs to pull its weight.

This isn’t

We were in the discussion this year. Being in the discussion again wouldn't be a "big jump".

The reality of the LSU basketball program in the NIL era is that we'll always be playing from behind without the support and resources of other programs.

Retention, high school, and portal recruiting have all been great this offseason. That's a great first step that (again) dismisses the ridiculous talking point that McMahon can't recruit.

How could it be? 2+ years ago we technically didn’t have anyone on the team for a day or two. Be realistic. Duh.

We were never in serious discussion. Even after beating Kentucky and South Carolina we had the slimmest of margins for error along with some bad non conference losses on the resumee. Our NET was never anywhere good enough to be seriously considered. If we’re a projected 7 seed-bubble team entering march i would consider it a big step. (I said step not jump you illiterate doylem.)

Setting up a lot of excuses and our program's history isn't a valid one since every coach since Dale has made the tourney at least once by the end of year 3.

That’s false and has been debunked dozens of times. The entire roster was still here when he was hired.
