I could not be more upset for the state of the program.

Where are we going?

Help me bros/gals, I don't see tunnel light. Give me some hope.

Dick Vitale is very, very happy, even got his boy’s name on the court, with no whipper snapper looking to replace it… so there’s that….

The only way I feel like there’s light at the end of the tunnel is if McMahon uses what he learned after the season to keep the players he can and use the portal in a way that feels holes. You have to have some continuity though so it’s not a good idea to just more or less cut everyone and start over.

He won’t be able to control who leaves on there own though. Just hope we can build around fountain and the young guys that stay

My point is with the transfer portal there’s no way we can’t get better.

Guards will come here because of the playing time available so he may be able to be selective . I hope he considers size when he picks from whos available and willing to come. We have to have guards that are bigger and can shoot.

We can build around guys like fountain and Phillips . Hopefully Hayes and ward are here as well

The current state is pretty bad. I live attending MBB games, bringing my boys. Fast pace and usually lots of fun. The Wade years were awesome and honestly think he would still be here if not for Coach O title nine. Still should be here. That be….

I can’t totally call CMM on this season as he was hired in late March. His start included every player entering the transfer portal, then all the recruits decommitting. Had 5 minutes to put together a roster. So he asked Murray st guys to help and folks like cam Hayes. Imagine if jalen cook, Brandon murray, fudge, and a few others stayed.

I HAVE to give this off-season for transfer portal to see the type of player he wants and the 2024 class

Vitale says that we need to lock McMahon into a long term contract asap.

You are aware Missouri’s head coach was in the EXACT same situation, right? He was hired the day AFTER McMahon. He had 9 players transfer out. He had to “piece together” a roster with transfers. 4 of those coming with him from Cleveland State. I guess he was crazy enough to think his team didn’t have to be terrible this year given they are in the hunt for a NCAAT spot.

This season is ALL on McMahon. He doesn’t have a horrible roster. It just looks horrible because he has done such a bad job. No one was expecting this team to compete at the top of the SEC. But I don’t even know if they can compete at the bottom.

The problem with the roster is length, and athleticism. We are diminutive and the guard, and we lack athletic length. If you look at the sec, it’s all speed, length and athleticism.
Our biggest player KJ is a below the rim 6’10”.
None of the guys can create their own shot.
Hannibal is probably the best at it and the quickest but barley 6’0”.
We have no Marlon Taylor’s, Bigby Williams, Emmitt Williams, Eric Gains, Brandon Murray type players. These guys were long, hyper athletic, could jump out the gym. Defense they could switch on everything.
We have no shot creators like a tremont waters or cam Thomas.
Guys who could take the ball when shite broke down and make a basket

I do think you make some good points. My issue is that the diminutive guards playing in the game together at the same time too much. We started a big lineup yesterday and actually IMHO played better when the bigger lineup was in together.

One of my bigger and consistent critiques of CMM this year is who he plays, when and how much.

Reed, Ward and Justice Williams do have the length and athleticism you ask for and at this point with really no post-season hopes left - get them in there more and get them some experience. He did that more today than he has all year and we were as competitive as we've been in a good while.

I do think CMM found something from a coaching perspective that was working in getting the ball to Fountain on someone he could take to the hole and driving him at getting to the foul line. Something he quit doing late in the game when we stopped Bama about 7 straight possessions but could not cash in on the offensive end enough to pay that off.

That’s not a given that we’ll do any better the portal than we did last year.

I am a glass half full kind of guy. The last two games we have shown much better effort, much better coaching and CMM showing a lot of emotion. Guy got T'ed up yesterday. All we are missing is talent and that is quickly remedied through the portal. I have great hopes for next season.

For a team that was completely gutted, we had the #11 portal ranking. With a few pieces to build on next year, I am sure we can field a half decent team.

The question then becomes that if our portal ranking was as good as it was, were those rankings seriously flawed as I keep reading here we have no talent on the team?

Similarly were the freshman class rankings similarly flawed as Reed and Ward who were relatively highly rated have had very little on court impact compared to other freshmen ranked at or near the same level as them.

Or is there an evaluation issue in our staff?

Or is there a developmental issue? A usage issue? And implementation/roster management issue?

That ranking is probably due to volume. Most teams aren’t doing complete rebuilds from the portal. We got some solid pieces in the portal, but we can’t rely so so much production coming from the portal.

How was Mizzou ranked relative to us in the portal? They have a lot of transfers on their team, 4 from Cleveland State. They were picked to finish behind us in all pre=season predictions, yet they are currently tabbed to be a 7-seed in the tournament.
