so you are saying that some have developed and some haven't? maybe he's spent the better part of a year trying to get those that haven't developed trying to get them to buy into what he's preaching and it hasn't worked. he may have had exhausted every possible way to get them to buy in and nothing has worked so he's had to resort into the public humiliation route. in all of the time has has been here he has had nothing but praise and admiration of any player he's spoken about publicly. he has never once come close to what he said after the game friday night. that tells me that he's at the end of his rope with it and his last ditch effort to motivate those players is speak on it publicly. i have no idea what's going on but it was just extremely out of character for him so i'm just trying to rationalize why he said it.

we are lucky he hasn’t taken a professional job

What?!

This stupid narrative that Johnson is a MLB manager candidate seems to have arisen out of a dumb question by a reporter. Until Vitello was hired by SF this season, no college HC had ever made the jump directly from college HC to MLB manager...in the century+ history of the MLB. Johnson is NOT a serious MLB manager candidate. And that is becoming less so with Vitello struggling in SF. Johnson is also making $3M per year. That is FAR more than MLB non-manager coaches make.

In other words, Johnson has no realistic "professional job" market unless he wants to take a big pay cut to join an MLB squad as an assistant of some sort.

He's having a bad season. It sucks, but it happens.

There are quality players from smaller conferences. We don't win the natty last year without guys like

Luis Hernandez - Missouri Valley Conference
Daniel Dickinson - WAC
Anthony Eyanson - Big West
Zac Cowan - Southern Conf.

You can always compile talent, but that doesn't make a "team". This team looks like a bunch of individuals. There's a lack of leadership, energy, and teamwork. As soon as something goes wrong in a game they drop their heads.

I think this will be a common theme in the NIL era of college. You don't have enough time to evaluate anything but the talent aspect of a kid. I don't think there are rotten apples in the group, but there's definitely not enough "leaders/dudes" to take over. The coach should not be the leader of a team.

here are maybe a handful of players who have really shown any consistent growth this season and that's all on him and his staff.
If some have shown growth and some haven't, then wouldn't the "havent's" be on the players? Get off the coaches nutsack.

I'm gonna read really far between the lines and suggest that what Jay was saying is "this is what I had to work with with the money I had. I have more money now and I wont allow that to happen again with all the small school transfers."

This was supposed to be a top 5 portal class in the country.

So Jay wasn’t the only one who was fooled.

Skip’s philosophy.

You don’t necessarily put the 9 best players at their position on the field. You field the 9 best players that make up a team.

Posts like this are actually hilarious

Having talent and not developing, accepting roles, or performing under pressure aren’t the same thing. Does this team have the talent of last year’s- not even close. They don’t have A&M’s raw talent level this year, either. Is it miles off of 24- probably not.

The main difference is that, even though 24 was also a flawed team with holes that were easy to see, Jay identified a core of players that would work and they came together and started winning. A few transfers like Braswell and Holman stepped up and Larson and Milam grew up fast in the infield. We had some guys out there playing at our near their max levels down the stretch.

The talent vs performance argument definitely applies to pitching this year. We know Evans has talent and elite stuff, but he hasn’t translated well at all to being a starter. They tried to put a heavier load on Guidry and he’s shown he just can’t handle that, but that doesn’t mean he sucks. He’s still just fine in his once through the order/closer role he played yesterday. Cowan is also being stretched beyond what he excels at and is giving up more runs because of it.

If you want to gripe about how this team hasn’t bought in, hasn’t developed, hasn’t accepted their roles, and isn’t doing little things the coaches shouldn’t have to remind them of- fire away. But none of that has shite to do with talent level.

"It's not your fault son, it's my fault for recruiting you." - Skip Bertman

If all you hear when Jay speaks is that he's throwing all accountability on players, then you're not listening very well. He owned up to misevaluating talent and roster construction, along with failure to develop them to the standards he expects.

At the end of the day, he can't play the game for them though. The players need to be held accountable as well. Whether that's an inability to throw strikes, have quality at bats/approaches, or make routine plays... that's on players.

Scouting is the art of projection, it’s not a science, it’s taking someone’s current stats and trying to translate them into a different situation,

It almost never proves. It’s either better or worse than the projection.

‘No one thought Skenes wound be what he turned out to be, No one thought Dardar would turn out where he is either. One better one worse.

We got a bunch of transfers that did awesome at lower levels and we thought they could be awesome at this level. Turns out they peaked at lower levels.

Honestly the entire SEC will learn from our issues

Simpson top 50 for 2nd and caraway for 3rd base I think. LSU baseball tweeted it preseason.

That being said and I’ve said this multiple times and got mocked. I would have traded all of our fielding transfers (Dardar, caraway, Yorke, and Simpson for ace Reese or henery ford). 4 for 1. Still not sure how the money woulda looked but especially now it woulda made sense.

So you don’t know either. All you do is shite on other people’s opinions. Your shtick is tired bro.

The answer is Jay Johnson, Josh Jordan, Nate Yeskie, Josh Simpson, Mark Wanaka, Jamie Tutko, and a littany of others. Here is a helpful link that shows you who evaluates the players.

It's the coaching staff, dumbass. It's the same coaching staff responsible for identifying the talent that has won is two of the last three national titles in the sport.

You either know this, and are asking in bad faith (which is the pretty obvious answer considering you've done this multiple times) so you can say fire Jay or something similar.

Or, you don't know who evaluates talent, which would make you genuinely retarded. I hope, for your sake, it's the former.
