Why would LSU give a shite about the rest of it?

because "the rest" are the future generation who will buy LSU gear, want to go to school there, more likely to join TAF and be season ticket holders in the future...

my dad used to take me out to campus to go to my uncle's tailgate when I was little...we didn't have tickets most of the time but would either find them out there or go home and watch it on TV. it is what made me an LSU fan

There won't be any open spots when we play an SEC team. Tailgaiting was down because it was a game against NSU.

The NFL has long ago abandoned the fan and rendered them little more than an unappreciated source of revenue. Now it looks as it the officials at LSU have taken the same myopic view of the school's supporters.

To some extent, yes, when fans are pulling up the wooden poles along nicholson to park their trucks 20' closer and shoving empty beer cans down the toilet in turead hall causing pipes to break.

However they also realize more people on campus = more souveniers purchased, more outside concessions purchased, creates demand for the product.

Dude, seriously, not everyone who goes out to tailgate without tickets are trashy rednecks who throw all their beer cans on the ground...this is just being ridiculous. In fact the spoiled frat boys with rich parents are more likely to do this.

LSU was known for the gameday atmosphere and tailgating long before it became a dick measuring contest to see who could throw the biggest "coolest" party and other idiots started trashing up the campus. Imo the gameday experience has gotten worse over the last 5 or 6 years, not better, because of some groups going overboard and because of a larger % of riff raff, as someone else put it, on campus.

IT WAS THE HOME OPENER! People starved for tailgating and football.

Geees. . ... cant we all just agree that this trash problem isnt isolated to one group of people? So stupid to say so and so are the ones doing it.

Ive driven down nicholson early on suday am before made my way through campus and it is trash EVERYWHERE.
Every person has a hand in it.. obv some mre than others but its not isolate as some of you would like to incinuate.

the home-opener for a top team in the nation team coming off a huge win? inner campus was dead, no way to justify it

Good point, I agree and I shouldn't have put that. My point was more just that its not only "Cliff and Larry" that "trashes" the campus

I never tailgated ONCE as a kid, though I did many times as an adult. In fact, my friends and I set up consistently for about five years.

Not tailgating as a child had ZERO impact on my LSU "fanhood."

Don't get me wrong, I always had a blast tailgating. But eventually, the headaches and time constraints of dealing with it all pulled me away.

I'm not knocking those that tailgate, and there are PLENTY of responsible tailgaters, but over the last ten years, as LSU Football has grown the number of jackasses that trash everything up has grown as well.

LSU ABSOLUTELY made the right decision in charging more to get on campus.

I knew this was coming years ago.

In fact, looking at the trash around the parade grounds as I left Saturday, I would not be AT ALL surprised if LSU starts selling "space" to tailgate, where you have a permit and a spot, and they know who to blame if it's a disaster area when you leave.

Isn't the money from these paid parking going back to the University and not the athletic department?

I also don't see them losing money here. People will still buy tickets to the games and this will raise demands for parking passes in the future.

We tailgate in a free area which is normally double parked and packed. We had about 20% of the spots open when we walked to the stadium around 5:30. So all the arguments about the paid parking is false because it was just a light tailgate day. Our lot has nothing to do with the paid parking and we were not full.

In fact, we assumed our lot would be even worse since it is free and we got out there extra early. Didn't matter.

See my earlier post, I absolutely agree about things getting worse as LSU football has gotten bigger and better.

And don't tell TigerLee about charging for tailgating space, we had a big argument about this a while back. He is convinced there are already designated, reserved tailgating spaces.

You must think pretty highly of yourself to believe that there is only one side to this coin, which happens to be yours.
I'm glad you won't pay the $40. Keep walking.

And so why jump to 40 bucks and 50 for trailers?
You make a quick buck but kill the potential golden goose.
Charge 10-20 and 25 for trailers and people will pay it, plus you weed out the riff raff.
Interior parking lots were near empty for the home season opener. A lot of that was due to parking price. That is people that stayed home instead of coming to campus and spending WAY more money than they would make off of unreasonable parking fees

Agreed. $40 is too much. Why not just charge $10 or $20 for all spots on campus? Wouldn't LSU make the same amount of $, if not more?

The lot I used to park at was full by 3:00. So I just had to park further away from campus and pay somebody else (not LSU) $10 for the spot. The only lots let available were $40 spots. The hell with that...if I can pay $10 and walk, I'm going to do it.
