We tailgate in a free area which is normally double parked and packed. We had about 20% of the spots open when we walked to the stadium around 5:30. So all the arguments about the paid parking is false because it was just a light tailgate day. Our lot has nothing to do with the paid parking and we were not full.

You do realize a lot of people didn't go out to campus at all because they didnt want to even deal with this new parking policy...I know multiple friend groups who just stayed at home and had a watch party at a house because people just now assume all the free spots will go really fast and they don't want to have to pay (even if that might not actually be true)

but the parking prices affected the amount of people out there both in the center of campus and in the free lots

I hate to admit it, but with all the hassles now, I'm almost to the point where I'd rather sit at home and watch the games on television.

has LSU actually officially said what the 40 dollars is going to?

i know the rant has thrown out its clean up fee and stuff but IMO if LSU was transparent about what the 40 is for then maybe more people might be willing to shell it out.

I think for small ooc games drop the price for the bigger raise it up to 40

I dont walk.
Ill pay it for the couple games Im plan on goin to.
I just think its too much, as do numberous other people.

Besides this has nothign to do with why I called you out.. which you have yet to acknowledge.

No, the side coin Im on is why would LSU want to do something that DISCOURAGES a great tradtion that it has. A unique event that only happens a few times each year and rest of the country envys.
WHy? B/c of greed thats why.
All about money.

Don't know. But LSU will always say they need more revenue. Even with the extra millions LSU received through the SEC network contracts and the fees now charged all the season ticket holders for seats in the stadium.

While this is probably the best and fairest plan, the rant would still complain about being gouged by LSU when we play Alabama and Florida.

I think the better thing is to just charge $10 or $20 for every spot on campus. If you get there earlier, you get the better spots. But LSU still makes the $. But I guarantee you, those free spots this year won't be free in the next few years.

Very sad. It wasn't my decision (I didn't know about it until after it had happened actually) but the guys still living in BR and pretty much running our tailgate, which had been together for 5 or 6 years now, sold the trailer and tent and did away with the tailgate entirely.

ETA: I forgot to mention that I got on board with another group - not fair weather. Changing sucks though

while this is true for the rant i think some transparency and some common sense like raising and lower prices would go along way with the average fan.

It would also help LSU maximize the profit they could make from this.

The only draw back I really see is confusion on price on a game to game basis but If you get the info out that say fcs-nonbcs games are 10 dollar parking, bcs ooc games are 25 and then sec games 40 it could work.

Or they release prices with the schedule and then for the game that week make it easy to find the price on lsusports.net

Exactly what I thought. If it doesn't affect you directly then it's not a problem.

I hope it doesn't come to that but it probably will.

The sliding scale would probably produce better results than a fixed 10 -30 dollar price.

Or just make it possible to purchase the parking pass ahead of time.

I'm sure that is in the works.

They won't have them ready in time.

But that could work. Just let people buy a parking pass for the season in these $40 lots.

they did have it to where you could get them ahead of time for the game but you had to leave your car overnight.

they need a better system and it should have been better thought out instead of lets play a trial and error guessing game on the best way to do this.

LSU seems kinda stubborn though when they make a decision to do something so it might take a bit before the parking is worked out.

So this group of guys, who have been tailgating for YEARS decided to disband their tailgate over $540 a year...is that what I'm understanding? I find it hard to believe that was worth selling a trailor and disbanding over. There are 6 or 7 games a year. If you have a bunch of people thats $50-$70 extra per family.

You want me to believe yall disbanded over $70 a person? Get real. If so, yall are a bunch of cheapos.

this is the thing, people spend an ASSLOAD of money in the community to tailgate. LSU makes an assload selling beer and merchandise to these tailgaters. You lure them in with free parking and just the fact of them being there generates revenue, on top of the revenue for the surrounding area.
When you jack up fees so high as to discourage not just the riff raff, but good fans as well, you not only hurt the atmosphere that made Tiger Game day what it is, but you discourage tradition forming habits to keep it going.
and then there is the mission creep.
If fans end up paying the exorbitant fees for the big games, then soon all the spots around campus will be pay to park. then you have to staff all those lots as well.
people get fed up with the hassle, fed up with the fees, then just stay home. then their kids don't have the tradition of tailgating to drive those continued behaviours, so over time you lose out on so much more revenue than will ever be generated though ridiculous fees.
You kill the golden goose to make a quick buck.

hopefully this is all a magnificent ploy so people won't complain when they drop fees to more reasonable levels.

There won't be any open spots when we play an SEC team. Tailgaiting was down because it was a game against NSU.

the home-opener for a top team in the nation team coming off a huge win? inner campus was dead, no way to justify it

Followed by a trip to Dallas that many people made.
Touchdown Village was dead. I promise it will be back for an SEC game.
