First, I disagree with some of the assumptions made at the outset. I don't think that the majority of LSU fans thought that Saban would fail. From the tone of your post, I assume you believe that Saban is a great coach. I think he's a very good coach, but I don't think that his way of coaching is the be all and end all of coaching. That said, it amazes me how some LSU fans refuse to give Coach Miles his due. For example, Saban states routinely that the "run" game is of primary importance. Les says we got to get the "run" game going & fans go nuts saying he wants to play boring BigTen football. We dismiss a guy who was slated to be our QB last year and this year & who on talent alone could have been Heisman quality. The fan base calls for the kid's dismissal & then yell about the problems at QB with a redshirt freshman and a true freshman last year. It is absurd on the basis of last year and our 5-1 record this year to say the Tigers are falling. Does that mean OU is no longer respected, they have 2 losses this year already. What about USC? On the decline? Really! We beat a team they lost to for goodness sakes! Les is no Saban and thank goodness for that. Saban won a Nat'l Champ at LSU and Les has one, tool. This post is so premature and frankly, damn negative...why don't we wait and see how the season plays out before Chicken Little declares the sky is falling.

Yeah, well, Bama's offense has looked like a pile of three day old dogshit the last two games.
It looks damn good when compared to LSU's
Compare their Sophomore and Freshmen running backs to LSU's freshmen, or to LSU's Senior running backs.
Next season Bama will have at least two running backs capable of making All SEC or All American. LSU will have several backs with almost no experience.
Black and Scott's production this year probably makes them wonder why they didn't go to the NFL early. I wonder how many Juniors will consider Scott and Black's decision and how it affected them when draft time comes around.

Having said that, we all change as we mature, so maybe he is ready to "settle" somewhere for awhile. I just don't believe he'll be at Bama forever.

First of all, LSU is not in "decline." How about waiting to see how this season plays out? Will they be in "decline" if they win out?
Second, Alabama wasn't exactly a garbage heap when Saban took over. I seem to recall a Les Miles-led LSU team going into Tuscaloosa in 2005 and beating a #3 ranked, unfeated Tide team. Remember that one? Saban was still floundering in Miami at that point. Was Bama (at #3, and, undefeated) really the Little Sisters of the Poor at that point? I don't understand the desire by anyone to unnecessarily build up Saban's reputation. He did a great job at LSU but he, as well, benefitted from what he had to work with. He will do a great job at Alabama, but it wasn't like the cupboard was bare.

The Rise of the Tide (and the fall of the Tiger)
I think most people on this board would admit that when Saban finally landed at Bama they were (1) angry, and (2) certain that he could not attain the level of success at Bama that he did at LSU.
As I remember it, most felt that he would not win because he would not be able to recruit the same quality of athletes, that he would not win because he would not be able to recruit because he was now viewed as untrustworthy, that he would not win because he would not stay and deal with the Bama fanbase, etc.
We are now 2.5 years into the Nick Saban experiment at Bama and we have seen that he can recruit to Bama, perhaps better than he recruited to LSU. We have seen that people do not care about his untrustworthiness in the past, and we have seen that he really does not pay any attention to the Bama fanbase.
Furthermore, all signs indicate, much to the LSU fanbase dismay, that Saban has no intentions of leaving Bama until retirement.
Obviously things are not bad in BR. We are top 10 BCS school and loaded with talent for years to come.
However, I cannot help but feel that LSU is on the way down from the pinnacle and that Bama is on the way up.
Just three years in, most on this board seem to think that the Bama game is a sure loss (most thought that last year as well to be honest).
What have we learned in the last three years? Will Saban be more successful at Bama than he was at LSU? Has the rise of the Tide with Saban pushed LSU down a rung or two, and if so, will LSU be able to overcome it?
Is this season over? Have we even played Bama yet?....Lest we forget that this was a team MANHANDLED by Utah last year...not with trick plays but just straight up utah saying Im more of a man than you bama and dominating on both sides of the ball......As another poster said our fans are whiny bitches...you all can concede dominance to Bama but I will take our team and Les Miles over the team in tuscaloosa every day and twice on sundays....you heard it here....we win at bama this year

We dominate Auburn show some Shepard skin during the game and we'll be right back in it with the pollsters. LSU has the athletes to compete against Alabama/Florida home or away. We have a better qb than Alabama and overall a better selection of receivers. Maybe they have an edge with Ingram but only a slight one. If we can tackle we can hold their offense in check.

The truth hurts, but the dude is a damn good coach. Ran Tubbs out in 2 years. Tubbs owned the state for at least 5 or 6 years.

i believe that Bama can be beaten with this defense we have if a very simple thing happens. We put in Lee who is a quick release pocket passer. If we stick with JJ then we get the same ole take one look to LaFell and run for your life and get sacked. Our offense is anemic under Jordan Jefferson. It's time to give Lee another look.

I was blasted when I said Saban would end up at Bama even when Saban himself said he wasnt. I knew they would do whatever it took to get him.
In Alabama football is more important than God.
Then I was blasted for saying what has happened, would happen. College football runs in cycles.
Ours is coming to an end, it appears.
How many decades went by before we got Saban?

quote:Yes. There is a totally different mindset regarding football and heart in the state of Alabama. It plays right into Saban's style.
Will Saban be more successful at Bama than he was at LSU?
quote:Perhaps. I think coaching is the biggest difference. I like Miles but he is not the quality of coach Saban is. I know people make jokes about "Saban's recruits" but the fewer Saban recruits we have, the more losses we have. They were well coached. Even the 3*s like Hester carried the team to the 2007 NC. Without him, no NC.
Has the rise of the Tide with Saban pushed LSU down a rung or two
quote:Of course. The bigger questions are will Miles be able to overcome it and if not, how long LSU will go without a premium coach.
and if so, will LSU be able to overcome it?

One thing we do not know yet: what is the cumulative effect on a team/program of listening to and being driven by someone so demanding as Saban? Will it all become too much when you can never please the leader because his standards and measurements of success are different than everyone else's?

Maybe so but I think players leave after 4 yrs and go on to make big NFL bucks and recruits will be lined up to have Saban order them around all the way to the first round.

That is truly amazing, juvenile for sure, but amazing nonetheless. Very brazen and brave to cast internet punches, quite different in person.
We are discussing football, and even so, this idiot cannot come back with a decent response to the questions posed, much less any reasoned proof to dispute what I am saying, so the response is what is seen above.
That is brilliant and very cowardly.
Here is a word of advice, if ever in public, do not disparage a man's family to his face...he might not take too kindly to it.

Come on man. That doesn't mean that Saban's vaunted defense should have been torched like it was. What does the left tackle have to do with that?

I hear this repeated ad nauseum and, what exactly is it based on?

When Saban was here he went.........
8-4 Chick Fil A Bowl Win
10-3 SEC championship Sugar Bowl win
8-5 Loss in Cotton Bowl
13-1 SEC and BCS champs
9-3 Loss in Cap One Bowl
Miles has gone......
11-2 Chick Fil A Bowl win
11-2 SEC Runner up, Sugar Bowl win
12-2 SEC and BCS champs
8-5 Chick Fil A Bowl win
currently 5-1
Some of you all are delusional. Saban has had up and down years since he's been in college coaching. His team losing to Utah in the Sugar Bowl was no fluke, as evidenced by his prior record.
Sit back and relax and know that we've got a great coach and, they'll get the team where they need to get it. In the meantime, at least we're not Oklahoma or Florida State. We actually still have all our goals in sight.
