Blocking scheme. Gap assignments. This is new for us this year and they didn’t adjust.

I still think the kids got together and found motivation within themselves when the coaching staff clearly couldn't bring it out of them. I haven't seen the effort out of this team all season that I saw yesterday.

It wasn’t difficult. We just ran simple counters…we just ran them well. Even with no film, they should have been able to adjust. Execution matters and our OL played lights out.

they tried adjusting. they put all they could into the box to stop north south runs short of leaving a WR with nobody to cover him.

we had all 4 WR's on some of those plays with man coverage on all 4 with no safety help deep or on outside. florida was begging us to throw there. they had 7 in box and we still ran over them with counter treys and traps. many teams will have 5 or 6 in box against spread sets depending on down and distance. UF left all 4 DB's hanging out to dry. normally you kill that with quick throws underneath if playing man off or over the top if man press and cover 0.

lsu basically imposed their will and still ran it down their throats

The LSU line could not effectively block with a 5 man zone scheme. It took the 7th game to adjust to a gap scheme with 11 and 12 personnel. If the defense keeps giving up 500 yards and 40 points, it won't matter.

That's the key there. FL refused to adjust.

Yep. And they were slow to react to us putting in a sixth OL at times. In the first quarter we had dellenger in and they were still with 3 DL.

Future teams will plan for the counter etc. the question is does our ability to run open up some more short to intermediate passing. Keep the defense off balance and we have a shot in most of our games.

Watching the highlights, I couldn't believe I was watching the LSU offensive line. The pulling lineman found a body every time, and the guys blocking down walked off everyone else.

Did they not watch film of the second half of the Kentucky game? We ran counters that game as well.

Modern defenses are built smaller to handle modern offences. Not sure if they could adjust to such a well run running game. I remember a commentator saying earlier in the season that the pendulum might be swinging back to the big run games of old.

Can you (or someone else) explain for me in simple terms the difference between a zone blocking scheme and a gap blocking scheme?

I don’t know much about O-line Xs and Os

A valid point but consider all the available film study on both bama and Ole Miss...they continue to score bigly..

So lsu didn't pull its guards and tackles NOT ONCE all year? I find that hard to believe. They basically ran 47 gap. Old Rams play that John Robinson used with the Rams and Eric Dickerson
