Taken from Carters film study. Will link it below in case the gif embed doesn't last.

KJ goes looking for contact, looking to run everybody over and do a Mississippi State moment again. He's got tunnel vision for a defender and isn't seeing the field.

If you watch the play above closely you see he actually lowers his head and barrels straight ahead for contact instead of making a cut with all that green grass

6 minute 40 second mark for the play above

I think he just can’t see the field

He also needs to drop 15 or 20 pounds, he’s too heavy. The added quickness would help, he’s not going to consistently run over sec defenders.

I said this about this play in real time to my son. I'm basically a football genius

that’s a well blocked play, he has to make that cut and he just isn’t.

I bet you can find a lot of runs like that where he is slow to see or doesn’t see the hole.

Move him to linebacker if he loves contact and doesn’t have the right mentality for running back.

When you’re a running back you have to find the holes in the defense and get as many yards as possible. You can’t just focus on punishing the guy running towards you.

I saw the same play and immediately thought…

WHAT ABOUT THE MASSIVE LANE JUST TO YOUR RIGHT?

You are so right. We see this dynamic often with young players. They receive much praise and reinforcement from one play then repeatedly try to duplicare that play.

You are exactly right. He made one or two truck plays last year and everybody freaked out. He believed the hype, and everyone encouraged it. And whenever he does break out in the open, he is too slow, we'll get caught from behind almost every time.

He returned kicks last year. I doubt he is too slow.

Thanks for posting. There 5 other runs just like that with he and Williams. Line blocked it up perfect and they get no gain to 4 yds.. when big gainers are there on outside

I’ve said that before and during the game. Terrible vision and lateral movement.

One play Williams was running with his head down and still gained 4 yards but had a huge hole. He just ran straight into the only defender there.

I agree with you. He looks stiff, just think being a little lighter would help with lateral movement.
