It’s become like professional wrestling, fake and scripted outcomes decided in advance.

call it growing up

Huh?

I don’t think actively rooting for amateur athletics more than pros is a sign of growing up. I think it’s just that there is a certain level of loyalty to a university that you know many players have since they chose to attend the university. As opposed to being drafted or traded.

I personally enjoy college football more, but I love the NFL too. I just love football, man.

The NFL is an entertainment corporation, not a sports league for those interested. This explains a lot of the strange officiating.

Yeah this pretty much summarizes it. This and the fact that there's so many more teams. The rivalries also feel more "real". The conference competition through bowl games is also better.

The players are also a lot more humble imo. You don't have to worry about things like free agency, egos, etc..

Free Agency, the salary cap, rules changes, political correctness are the main reasons I stopped watching the around 2010. It isn't the sport I loved from the 70s to the 90s.

A lot of us who actually went to and completed school tend to identify with college sports more. There are some who are college and pro fans and then there are those who never darkened a classroom who are more pro sports oriented. Granted there are a lot who never went that identify with college sports yet it is still different compared to those of us who got the enjoy the college experience. There is much tradition in college sports that's just not in pro. I quit Watchung pro after Meridith and Cosell went off the air.

You must not have watched the blown call on the Patrick Peterson interception in 2009.

1. That was an extremely close call.
2. Video replay was not very conclusive, although it appeared that PP7 was in bounds. It was only days later that the still shot came out that appeared to show PP7 in bounds.
3. Bama wins that game regardless. They hardly needed help from the refs. Our offense could not do squat against their defense. Just the previous possession we had the chance to go downfield and take the lead, but we could not.
4. How would you answer a Clemson fan who said the championship game was fixed, and gave the photo of Clyde's hand out of bounds and the video of the non pass interference on the TD that was taken away?

No he's not. But what he's saying is still tomfoolery, so I suggest you disengage.

I do agree with the lack of passion for NFL now. Besides not watching it on tv much now I long ago quit going to the games in person years ago. Mostly due to the jackass fans the NFL seems to bring the worst out of. Grown arse men in Halloween outfits or in their warrior gear...team jersey over a hoodie with hat turned backwards and loudmouth wife in tow them react for the fight. No thanks. Sit my happy arse at home on Sunday afternoons enjoying the tears of LSU opponents.

I've become far less interested in the NFL and more into the college game the past few years. My LSU passion has also increased which I didn't think could get higher than it already was.

LSU had an historic season but I've always followed them intensely.

Saints losing out on Super Bow chances on the last play of the game three years in a row hasn't helped. My former passion for them is way down this year; if they win fine if not doesn't bother me much.

You'd think it would be the opposite but NFL refs are too inconsistent compared to College refs. That may not be objectively true but for me is a significant factor.

I quit shortly after free agency. Instead of our players vs yours, it became our jerseys vs. yours. No thanks. That, and I like to enjoy my Sundays outdoors.

I've heard it said that college is white-collar football and pro is blue-collar.

That's painting with a broad brush, but I find it to be pretty accurate.

Been a Saints fan my whole life, but this year reinforced that I personally care so much more about the school I graduated from. Kind of like how after we beat Bama and the Saints inexplicably lost to the falcons, I just didn't even care

Glad to see it’s not just me.

I wish the Saints the best and am happy when they win, but otherwise I just can’t make myself care that much.

I agree with many of the opinions on this thread. What I haven’t seen is that in college you can turn your program around in one year. In the NFL, one bad coach or one missed quarterback selection and your team is going to suck for five years or more.

Yep same here bud. When I was younger it didn’t matter who was playing I made sure that I watched the NFC and AFC championship games. Yesterday I didn’t watch a single snap of either game and didn’t care at all that I didn’t get to see the games.. It’s crazy how things change.

because the product has slowly degraded. More times that not games are decided by big time turns in officiating instead of big plays. Even after a big play is made, players will jump up either asking for or expecting a flag. I've been a die hard saints fan since the dark days, and half watched this season... hell I only watched half of our playoff game and haven't watched a snap of pro football since. Football season ended on Jan 13.
