He's a good hire. Wouldn't say it's a homerun, but good hire. He has the potential to be a homerun hire. I think if he brings in the right staff under him and the right pieces fall into place for LSU in the draft/players leaving we may be in Omaha as early as next year. He's young, has a ceiling to get better, and addresses direct weaknesses we had under PM. I like it.

I also believe that LSU’s interest in Johnson is legit, as I’ve heard that from multiple sources. But would he leave Arizona? Arizona Desert Storm, an SBNation site that covers Arizona baseball, writes that “It’s hard to imagine Jay Johnson leaving Arizona for any job not on this half of the country, considering his West Coast roots.”
But we all know that money talks, so I wouldn’t consider that too much of an obstacle.

The questions with regard to Johnson are: 1) Would his outstanding pitching coach, Nate Yeskie, follow him? 2) Would Johnson’s lack of experience in the SEC, and in the south in general, impede his recruiting efforts? Of course, any recruiting concerns could be rectified by hiring Jake Gautreau from Mississippi State as LSU’s recruiting coordinator, which is something many in LSU circles would love to do.
