The Era of a QB "Waiting His Turn" is Over Isn't It?

Don't think we'll see another Matt Flynn.

Seems like if a QB doesn't see a path to starter by year 2 he's off to the portal. And coaches are in on this as well.

Just a new era of CFB.

It’s drastically decreased for sure.

I said that I doubt Walker Howard sits another year. But what if he transfers out, gets a year of playing time, and then transfers back? I always thought the best way for some of these smaller colleges was to offer NIL money, get a starter for a year or two and then have him transfer to his preferred school.

Somewhat, but not has bad as people make it out to be.

Walker Howard, for example, won't be transferring if Jayden returns, regardless of what anyone says.

He would likely play a decent amount next year, even if he doesn't win the job. And with Daniels being a runner, it's a miracle he hasn't already had a major injury. He's been close.

That would leave him with three full seasons to start.

I think if a player has a path to start by their sophomore, or redshirt sophomore year, that should be sufficient in most cases. Unless a player wants to transfer to a G5 where they can start immediately.

I agree, Bjorn. Considering his father's experience at LSU where he got thrown in as a true FR and suffered the through games like that horrible Auburn loss, I don't think they're too concerned not being no. 1 next year.

Nuss is a different story, but he also hasn't made the most of his opportunities when they arose.

Nuss is the perfect example of when it's probably smart to transfer, especially if Daniels returns.

He has lost QB battles for two years and likely won't be the favorite in year 3. Might want to consider transferring to a G5 school. UTSA or North Texas type school.

Nuss was supposed to play a lot this year as well. We've seen him all of 30 mins.

I can’t believe Daniels has made it though a full season of SEC play unscathed (minus the aTm game). It’s a miracle he’s still suiting up

He was never in a QB battle his first year? How could he lose something he was never in. It was always between Johnson/Brennan/Finley.

Now, because you’ve seen him throw 60 passes he needs to transfer to a low-end G5 school?

The guy hasn’t even been on campus for two years yet and you want him gone. He’s got three years of eligibility left after this, you all talk about players not having patience and are immediately shipping guys off to Siberia before their 20th birthday.

Why would you stay if you’re not gonna play, can go to another program and play without penalty?

That's one side off it. The point is you may not know if you're gonna play because even if you're 'next in line' it's always possible the HC will bring in an outsider and you're holding a clipboard 5 straight years.

or Mac Jones?? who sat behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tang and then started as a rookie for NE Pats. That was a very long time ago, wasn't it?

Why?

What conceivable problem do you have with, say, Rattler and Williams leaving OK to go seek success elsewhere?

With the rules in place the way they are now, Matt Flynn would've been dumb to wait as long as he did to get his shot at LSU.
