The Athletic had a straw poll for the Heisman and had Daniels slightly behind Nix.

1st-2nd-3rd
Nix 16-13-3 (32 votes total) 77 points
Daniels 16-10-5 (31 votes total) 73 points
Anyone that puts Daniels 3rd (or worse) is someone trying to elevate Nix higher by taking points away from Daniels. As you can see, someone in the poll had Daniels ranked 4th or lower.
This is the dilemma with the voters with bias. The West Coast guys will rank Daniels 3rd (or worse) to help Nix try to win.
ETA: Penix was far behind both, so a Washington win should completely sink Nix's chances.
Nix 16-13-3 (32 votes total) 77 points
Daniels 16-10-5 (31 votes total) 73 points

Pretty much a popularity contest this season. Not sure how any sports writer or the like with a brain has Jayden worse than 2.

The recent slipup is that the media/voters had the chance to watch Oregon/Nix Friday night - with no other teams taking away from the spotlight of that game - against Oregon's rival/top 20 team Oregon State. Admittedly, Nix looked good in that game, too.
Meanwhile, LSU/Daniels is playing the next morning at 11:00 AM when everyone who isn't a LSU or TAMU fan is watching "The Game."
We really need Nix to struggle in the Pac 12 Championship. If he has a good game and wins the Pac 12 title, he'll have the Heisman wrapped up.

Neither Daniels or Nix should be lower than second on any ballot.

Correct. They should be 1 or 2. But you will get a bunch of west coast people try and game the system by placing Daniels 4th.

Hopefully not a Heisman voter and if they are, they should have their credentials revoked.

Just prepare for it guys, Daniels is getting hosed.

About as expected. The problem is that the two biggest national exposure games (FSU and Bama) were both double digit losses, one of which he got hurt in. He also only had 4 TD total between the two games.

There would have at least been a 5th but Turner's dirty play prevented it.

If so then hopefully the same thing occurs in favor of Daniels in other regions of the country. Actually, there is nothing to prevent a voter from voting for three players and not including either Daniels or Nix.

Daniels is going to dominate the south and east coast.

Anyone that puts Daniels third should never be allowed to vote again

Pretty easy to understand. If you're gonna put him at 2 then you're voting based on his record and not his stats, in which case you might as well have him at 3. In reality I can't see how anyone could justify having him at 2 because the logic that puts Daniels in front of Penix also puts him in front of Nix.

If you look at just passing stats, Nix and JD are basically equal. When you put rushing yards in there, JD has the advantage and it’s not even close which is why I think JD should win the Heisman.

I agree with this as this is not a contest merely for top qb but top player.
This should be the basis for any vote on Heisman.

And just to add more, the idiots who are harping on Daniels “padding his stats” fail to realize Daniels has just as many passing yards on less attempts than Nix.

They really aren’t even equal considering the conferences. What Daniels did in the SEC vs Nix in the PAC is far superior. What makes it even more ridiculous is we saw for 3 years what Nix was capable of in the SEC and he could barely cut it as a starter.
Nix winning over Daniels would be a travesty and I fully expect it to happen. Need Washington to show up in a big way Friday.

He did but I keep repeating this because I think it bears repeating...
Nix had more total yards than JD5 and his team won by more because his team has a defense - but, let's look deeper at those numbers.
Nix threw 40 times, JD5 24 for the game. JD5's team still scored 42 points against the nations 10th ranked D while Nix's team managed only 31 against the nation's 35th ranked D.
In those 24 attempts JD threw for 4 TD's - 3 of them very pretty impressive throws. Nix threw two TD's in those 40 attempts of his.
JD5 had a higher yards per attempt for his game than Nix did - a statistic that many regard as the best tool for measuring QB efficiency.
So basically JD loses ground it seems to me not because he was outperformed, because he was not....but simply because Nix has a game next week and he does not.
