Kevin O'Sullivan for starters
0 national titles
5 CWS appearances
3 SEC regular season titles
1 national coach of the year awards
Explain how that is clearly better than CPM

but this is the laziest counterargument that constantly pops up here.

Only argument for Sully would be that he's done it with fewer resources. Worse facilities. Bad fan involvement. Etc.

Yeah I'll definitely listen to an argument that O'Sullivan > Mainieri and it's not an absurd stance by any means, but he's not "clearly" better by any measure.

And lost 3 of 5 to PM with a more talented squad.

I think there are better in-game coaches. But running a program like LSU isn't like running a program in 99% of other places. There are extra commitments. Crazier fans. Higher standards. PM does a great job behind the scenes.

If we had Sully, it would be the exact same. Constantly hosting Supers, making Omaha every other year, and hoping to win the title. Yall want a mythical coach that can win a title every other year. That doesnt happen anymore.

Same money(or more)
Unlimited resources
Talent base not an issue
Spend my 60s with family overlooking Lake Travis or in Baton Rouge
yeah, I'd at least take the call...

And that's an argument for Sully though. He gets talent at UF without much advantage to recruit them there.

PM has his best chance to win a NC in quite a while, so unless UT is going to just throw a ton of money at him I have a tough time believing there's genuine interest on his side. He makes less than those clowns JJ and Caldwell and his program actually turns a profit. This is likely a way to get him a pay bump.
