Hard to say there is a definitive better coach in baseball right now than Mainieri, not to say Mainieri's success has been dominant, but rather that's just the state of college baseball right now (there are no dominant SKip Bertman types).
Only 2 active coaches have more than 1 title, Miami's Jim Morris, who last won a title back in 2001, but has been back to 6 CWS since (and has a chance to add another this year). And Oregon State's Pat Casey, who last won a title in 2007 (the fluke back to backs)...and has been to just 1 CWS since then. Both those coaches only have 2 total titles, and have been coaching at their respective schools much longer than Mainieri has been at LSU.
So no one really has a much better resume than Mainieri coaching currently. Jim Morris might be one of the few? Pat Casey is a big hell no, 2 year run then basically a whole lot of nothing.

As much as I like to argue PM's decisions in the middle of the game, I'd still take him over O'Sullivan.

Dude you really don't get sarcasm I guess

Sully is a great coach, but he too has underachieved at times at Florida. He had an outstanding team in 2011. That team had it all with Zunino, Tucker, Pigott, and the pitching was lights out.

No way PM kisses that statue goodbye outside the box
Perfect ploy for him to get back in good graces with fans and Alleva will pony up, he always does.

And that's an argument for Sully though. He gets talent at UF without much advantage to recruit them there.

Who would I take right now before Mainieri?
For starters...
Tim Corbin
Brian O'Connor
Dan McDonnell
Dave Van Horn
Monte Lee
Josh Holliday
You guys underestimate the advantages at LSU.

Two things are happening here folks:
1) Texas is retarded
2) Kendall Rogers needs to sell subscriptions

And none of those guys have better resumes. Again, not trying to white knight for Mainieri, but no one can come up with any active coach who is clearly better than Mainieri.

LSU Baseball is the most prestigious program in the country. The combinations of success/fan support/interest/attendance/resources is unrivaled. Although Texas has more overrall money.

You are joking right
Kevin O'Sullivan for starters
so one coach, how does that make Mainieri "far from #1." That would insinuate that there are many coaches better than Mainieri.
And if you want to compare him to Sully...
We'll start at 2008, since that was O'Sullivan's first at Florida. Since 2008:
Paul Mainieri:
1 National Title
4 CWS Appearances
7 national seeds
6 Super regionals
3 SEC Regular Season Titles
5 SEC Tournament Titles
Kevin O'Sullivan
0 national titles
5 CWS Appearances
6 national seeds
6 super regionals
3 SEC Regular Season Titles
2 SEC Tournament Titles
Seems pretty damn close to me, and honestly the edge would go to Mainieri. And if our fanbase wants to say Mainieri is a choker, what does that make O'Sullivan?
