Obviously, that was not the case last year.

Really? Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Colorado, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Baylor probably wouldn't have minded.

Those numbers are likely doubled over actual. Look at any picture of the crowd from one of their games and you could recognize any one you know, the people are so sparce. The only game that has had a decent draw in recent years is McNeese in 2007, with attendance >30K.

Something else to know is that the average ticket price is something like $10-12, so one cajun fan doesn't remotely equal the economic impact of one LSU fan.

To be honest, when we went to the Independence Bowl in Dinardo's 1st year, all the LSU students were quite happy. That's how bad we sucked.

One of the guys I work with is a ULL grad and had season tickets up until this year. Wanna know the reason why he didn't get them this year? He couldn't justify spending $300.

Here is a slightly dated (2004-2005 school year numbers), but still telling disclosure of ULL's athletic program. Use the drop-down to find them.

Note for football, guarantees, i.e., "body bag games", brought in more revenue ($700K) than ticket sales ($427K).

Note something that they include as revenue, but is not revenue at all. Direct Institutional Support = $3.2 million. That, LA folks, is money out of your pocket as a hard working taxpayer.

I've heard, though don't have a link, that the number has climbed now to ~$5 million. The techsters and others get something similar.

If left to support themselves, ULL, Latech, etc. would be no higher than Division II.

When I worked at KSMB in Laf, you couldnt give ULL tickets away most of the time. In fact they do give away at least 1/3 of them if not half.

I work in Lafayette. We have four (4) ULL season tickets. The company employees rarely want them. I usually have to call a few people before I can find someone to take them. Thats during a good year (6-6). Last year, they went un-used for some games.

I finally got that crappy webpage to open and I read what they had to say:

quote:

5. LSU – There’s no way LSU could be behind this, right? Don’t be so sure. For a certain segment of Ragin’ Cajun Nation, anything and everything that goes wrong is due to in-state arch-nemesis LSU. There’s a lot of pent-up animosity here from conspiracy theory yore about how LSU does everything in its power to keep UL down, from foiling its name change to stealing its money in the state Legislature. You’ve got to reach pretty far to pin the bowl snub on LSU, but Independent Weekly reader John Mikell called in with what could be the missing link: Independence Bowl Executive Director Missy Setters is not only an LSU alum but also worked in the LSU Sports Information office for three years.

They are obviously just joking about all of the conspiracy theorist at ULL.

This reminds me of the "BDS" sufferers populating sites like the Daily Kos. Or the people at U La La have a mighty high opinion of themselves if they think that LSU cares their bowl prospects.

eh, not really a good argument. West. MI and N. Ill are both equally as shitty as ULL

I disagree. Both of those programs are head and shoulders above ULL.

UL is Louisville. Man when will those people realize they are ULL or U-LA-LA. It cracks me up the way they push the UL thing.

number 10 should be number 1, and number 2 should be the fact that they didn't want to schedule them again this year ,,what a bunch of losers.

What's even more hilarious is that the local news stations were hyping the fact that UL Lafayette would be in the bowl and then they didn't get picked,,DAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA

#1 reason is nobody wants their sorry arse team in their bowl. Go back to div 1AA and be competitive.

But we're good at softball and table tennis!

Doesn't Louisville have UL Trademark??

If there is any reason that I would want SC to go 6-6 and have gone to the Independence Bowl instead of the Outback it would to have been on that list.

.. I can see it now.

No doubt. It'll prob be at least another 10-20 years before they schedule McNeese again. McNeese didn't just whoop ULL's @ss they embarassed them. Hell McNeese took a knee around ULL's 15 yard line to end the game, as bad as the loss was it could have been worse.
