Tearing down Miles' legacy requires tearing down LSU's legacy

I know many fans grew tired of Miles, but some have taken it farther. I have heard a number of idiots that want to tear down every success Miles brought to LSU.
Yesterday when I got in my truck for the drive home, some idiot was on Moscona's show bitching and raving about Miles. He felt the need to bring up that Miles was the only coach to win a championship with two losses, with the implication being that it was undeserved. Well, if it was undeserved for Miles, it was undeserved for LSU.
Look, Miles is gone. He made a lot of mistakes, but he also did a lot of things that should make us all proud to be Tigers. Being happy with the good isn't going to suddenly make LSU rehire him, so why dwell on the bad?

Miles' period of success was good and I don't think anyone wants to get rid of it. As for his legacy, he tore that down himself.

He didn't tear down anything. He still brought LSU one of only 3 national championships in program history. He still provided the longest period of sustained success in program history. There is no need to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

You're correct, of course...but I don't think this is specifically a Miles issue so much as an issue of a culture that simply needs to be "right" all the time and for many, Miles was the problem from Day 1. They've screamed it from the rooftops since we strolled out onto ASU's home field for his debut wearing a Madonna earpiece and then were sure of it when his weary team lost to TENN in game 2. After 11 seasons of claiming he was terrible, they've gotten their wish...so you're damn right they're going to rewrite his tenure to fit the narrative even if it means tarnishing LSU's run in the process.
For me, I've enjoyed the ever living shite out of not only Miles' tenure but Saban's. The last 15+ seasons have been a damn blast, even with what could be considered valleys or what some may have considered underachieving. And now, after watching back to back coaches bring titles to our program we're still in a fantastic position to not have a significant drop off when we replace Miles with a new coach. This ought to be an exciting time...and yet, for many, the desire to have people pat them on their heads and declare them having been right "all along" is so overwhelming they can;t let it go.
I'll just keep attending games and enjoying LSU football, like I always have. The mileage of others will vary...

anyone who thinks Miles was always a problem is an idiot.
but there's no denying that Miles became a huge problem.

Nobody thinks that. The game passed Miles up. He refused to adapt.

Yes there is. A huge problem just kept churning out successful seasons, right? Look, could we have won a game or two more the last couple seasons? Probably, but it wasn't all bad like your post implies.

Our players success in the NFL vs under Miles at LSU is the most detremential factor to Miles' legacy.

I know, I know. Sometimes you need to try to impart a little wisdom into a fool, even if it's foolishly naive to try.

lol, plenty of people have thought that. This isn't a new argument. When we had bad teams in 08 and 09 people in here were saying Miles was just lucky in 07.

Agreed...the problem is they are legion here and post a lot. All you need to do is ask for a show of hands for who "knew" Miles was a bad hire after TENN in 2005. They'll line up... Remember when Miles was just a repackaged Larry Coker? Those guys simply moved the goal posts but never stopped bitching.

Even I agree with this, and I've been as outspoken a Miles supporter as the board has had. A change was definitely in order and as much as I loved the guy, I'm excited about a new direction for the program.

The legacy the he forged at LSU from 2005 - Dec 31, 2011 is pretty much unrivaled by anyone recently other than Saban. However, for me at least, the stupidity and wasted resources that he created from Jan 1,2012 through last Saturday stands out way more than the earlier successes.

Well, that's just not honest. You may not, but to suggest there has not ALWAYS been a current of LSU fans complaining about Miles from the very start is simply not true.

Don't disagree. Much like Spurrier, everyone else caught up to what he was doing and when he refused to pivot we were done with being elite.

So so so many words have been wasted on this forum because of the basic failure to recognize that different people have different ideas of what constitutes success for the football program.
That's fine, but it becomes annoying when people like you take your subjective standards for success and try to impose them on everyone, and label an idiot anyone who doesn't fall in line.
Would-be tyrants, all of you!
