I think he's a good match up for us. His best tool is location, and that's usually what pitchers struggle with when fatigued.

I’m calling a long range crews missile in the first inning.

At least it won't be too hot at 3:00 PM in Mississippi.

Yay so we will get about 10 more “why didn’t LSU recruit him” threads between now and the game is over.

Wow!

This is one of the problems with College Baseball. Kid threw 109 pitches on Friday. Now pitching again on 2 days rest risks injury that could lead to damage to his potential future earning.

The decision was likely up to him and his family, just like it was for Landon last year. We can talk about arm abuse in high school and below, but these are adults.

It would be a bullpen day for him regardless. I assume he will be on a loose pitch count. I also do not think they would have green lit this unless he was feeling ready to go. This is not uncommon for any team in a regional. If Hilliard happens to get rolling today, I bet that LSU would ride him past his usual pitch limit as well.

Can't wait till this "they should have recruited you!" move backfires and he gives up 5 first inning runs because he threw 110 pitches 3 days ago.

Well...didn't see that coming.

I'm really surprised. He's a guy who typically shows fatigue and drops off at the 80 pitch mark on Friday's. Two days rest after 100+? Not sure what he's going to have in the tank.

All USM starters throw a bullpen on the 3rd or 4th day after a start (depending on effort level, etc). Ostrander has not had a single starting pitcher have arm issues from baseball related activities in his 5 years at USM.

I don’t think it’s that big of deal. It’s his bullpen day anyway and I doubt he goes over an inning. Maybe two max. Hilliard threw 55 pitches Friday and most on here want five innings out of him this afternoon
