re: Southern Miss P Hurston Waldrep enters portal

Waldrep wants to go to Florida. Has a girlfriend there. His hometown is about 45 minutes from Tallahassee.

Good luck the rest of the way. Some shitty comments on here from some, but y’all have a really good team and an extremely good staff/bullpen. The better team won this regional
Thanks. The Webels are in trouble facing our starters.
I watched a lot of LSU baseball this year. The talent back in the lineup is silly. The class coming in combined with a starter from the portal cranks it up to challenge the SEC, especially after that bitch in Knoxville gets busted for what we all know is going on.
Hoping we get a couple of midweeks next year for RPI help for both and good ball games.
Bright future

LSU baseball has a bright future. Jay Johnson will recruit well and develop well. Very soon.
Our team is old with position players and pitching is very good. A run is possible.
The LSU folks I met and interacted with in Hattiesburg this weekend were great. Enjoyed it a lot.
Look forward to seeing what Brian Kelly does. Hoping we play some midweeks in baseball next year. Good for RPI for us both.
Always fun playing the Tigers. Go to hell Ole Miss. Ready to silence those pompous bastards.

Wow! This is one of the problems with College Baseball. Kid threw 109 pitches on Friday. Now pitching again on 2 days rest risks injury that could lead to damage to his potential future earning.
All USM starters throw a bullpen on the 3rd or 4th day after a start (depending on effort level, etc). Ostrander has not had a single starting pitcher have arm issues from baseball related activities in his 5 years at USM.
re: Jus asking….why did LSU not recruit Tanner Hall?
Posted by Woodshedking on 6/6/22 at 9:17 am to Supermoto Tiger
Ostrander also had the national pitcher of the year in 2018 with Nick Sandlin.
He’s not going anywhere. He’s going to be head coach in a couple years. He’s basically coach in waiting now. He told Tulane no thanks for an interview for their head job.

They do have 4 good starters. But three started and I think 4th pitched in relief today if I am not mistaken. Please correct me if I am wrong!
Stuart started a few midweeks early. Starter the last few midweeks was Matt Adams. He was hurt earlier in the season. I expect him to start tonight.
Here is rundown of who USM has left for tonight:
Matt Adams - RH. Low 90s. Sinker guy. Hasn’t pitched yet.
Dalton Rogers - LH. Pitched last night. One of the two closers.
Ben Etheridge - RH. Low 90s. Strike thrower. Started the year as Friday night guy.
Had some injuries but I think he’s ready to go now.
Landon Harper - RH. Other closer. Pitched Friday and last night. I’m sure he’s down.
Chandler Best - LH. Low 90s. Talented guy that hasn’t but it together yet.
Isiah Rhodes - RH. Side armer. He’s been solid as a change of pace guy.
Garret Ramsey - RH. Nasty slider. He pitched last night.
These haven’t pitched much because the opportunities haven’t been there with starters usually going deep.
Aubrey Gillentine - RH. Mid 90s. Older guy with decent stuff.
Justin Storm - LH. 88-91. 6’6 with a funky angle.
Drew Boyd - LH. Mid 80s junk thrower. Usually a matchup guy.
Niko Mazza - freshman. Mid 90s. Electric stuff. He’s flashed it but also struggled in his few chances.
re: Michael Cauble said USM to start Tanner Hall

From a USM fan’s perspective - I think Waldrep and Riggins are better matchups vs LSU than Hall. Waldrep strikes out tons and Riggins gets a bunch of ground balls.
Hall’s weakness is he can get hit if he leaves it up in the zone like he has a few times in his last couple starts. Guys like Crews and Berry don’t miss mistakes.
Tomorrow night should be electric.

wondering why Southern Miss wanted to choose the early game today
Rain delays as others have said and also gives you more rest between games.

Legit 102mph? I didnt hear that. Crazy
That had to come from a hot gun. When USM played at Middle Tennessee this year, their gun had him at 104 lol.
Waldrep sits 95-97 and hits 98 or 99 now and then. He has filthy stuff with that velo, slider and a splitter that he uses like a change up. He struggles to locate from time to time. When he has command, he’s a rough ride for a hitter.
I expect Waldrep to pitch Saturday. There isn’t much difference in how effective Hall, Riggins and Waldrep are, just different styles. Riggins has been the best of the three the last 3 weekends.
re: Is LSU in the first base or third base dugout for Friday?
Posted by Woodshedking on 6/2/22 at 11:15 am to jmaclsu
3rd base dugout is the home dugout. Bullpens are the main difference between the two dugouts.

The park factor is 78 fwiw. Meaning its the most pitcher friendly park of all the regionals. 22% less runs than average
This is surprising. It has to be influenced by the fact that USM’s team ERA is 2nd in the country. They’ve allowed 31 HRs in 524 innings.
I’ve watched hundreds of games at Pete Taylor Park. It is certainly not pitcher friendly this time of year. South wind is prevailing and blows out to left center field. We’ll see some HRs this weekend.
Alleys are 365. It’s almost symmetrical in the outfield. Right center gets a little shorter quicker than left center as you move away from CF into the alleys.
re: Why LSU isn't hosting
Posted by Woodshedking on 6/1/22 at 7:26 am to geauxtigers33
I would like to see a midweek game or two each year between LSU and USM. Good RPI and non-conference SOS game for both - committee relied heavily on that this year.
re: Collin Husser, USM OF from Ponchatoula
Posted by Woodshedking on 5/31/22 at 12:40 pm to LSUChamps03
Husser was let go to make roster room for the upcoming class. He has the size and some raw skills but isn’t close to being ready to contribute on the mound or at the plate in high level D1 baseball. Going JUCO to develop would be a good move for him.
re: Longtime Hattiesburg resident here…. ask away (info inside)
Posted by Woodshedking on 5/31/22 at 11:57 am to LSUGoose
For those asking about GA tickets, there are about 2000 GA tickets available. There is a terrace down the right field line where you can bring your own chair. I would get there very early to do that.
There is also the Right Field Roost. 40 parking spots inside the park where we basically tailgate and watch the game. You’ll find a lot of food, drink and hospitality if you wander out there - just don’t block anyone’s view.
This pic will help I hope.

There are 4300 seats, but another 2000 or so general admission available.
Largest crowd was this year at 6300. It was a sellout.
