Southern Miss fans are big mad on the Twitter machine insinuating that schools were illegally contacting him prior to seasons end.

Impossible. That’s against NCAA rules.

Yeah. USM fans are mad. Who wouldn’t be about losing a potential first round draft pick on a team that would have been preseason Top 10.

FWiW. Kendall deleted the LSU tweet because he said he is hearing “another school”.
Depends on the question. Is the talent better at Mississippi college baseball programs? Over the last couple of years, I would say yes--given the number of universities.

In terms of talent that is homegrown, probably Louisiana--even per capita. Ole Miss and State are probably 2/3 to 3/4 out-of-state. USM is majority out-of-state kids.

If you look at the Perfect Game ratings, you see a lot of top recruits in each class in MS going to JUCOs and middle to low-level D1 programs.
I'm so sorry that you were exposed to our "Throw it in the dirt" guy. Most of us can't stand him.

OUR FIELD IS TURF!!! WE DON'T EVEN HAVE DIRT!!!
Yeah, I'm a little biased as a USM fan....but it's an A-, B+ at lowest staff.

You guys ripped our best reliever Harper, but he's good...ya'll were just an awful matchup for him.

Your staff wasn't a D either. Maybe by LSU standards, it is a D. Or maybe the starting pitching is a D. But it's a C staff overall. C pitching staffs just don't fare well in SEC or regional play.

From a USM Fan - Great regional

Understand a lot of ya'll are probably still pretty salty. You're not used to losing and don't want to hear from opposing fans. I get it. But I did just want to say that you guys should be proud of your team. They played their hearts out. It just wasn't there on the mound.

One hell of an entertaining regional. Thinking about your lineup will probably send a chill down my spine for a few more weeks. Serious talent and they step up in big moments. Crews may be one of the best college baseball players I've seen in a while.

I think Johnson is going to build an absolute monster down there. If you watched Arizona at all, you saw what that staff can do with hitters. Let him get the types of arms in that he couldn't get at Arizona, and woo boy.
Well...didn't see that coming.

I'm really surprised. He's a guy who typically shows fatigue and drops off at the 80 pitch mark on Friday's. Two days rest after 100+? Not sure what he's going to have in the tank.
Why would you, though? You don't need to look for diamonds in the rough.

Our staff doesn't look for diamonds in the rough because they want to. I guarantee that they would prefer to recruit guys like Floyd, Money, etc.

could be wrong, but from what I have read from USM fans and doing some research two of the likely pitchers to start for them are Ben Ethridge, 6'2 180lb RHP

I would bet my life savings (technically negative money due to grad school loans) that Ethridge will be the starter.

As a USM fan, I would love to tell you that he's someone you will struggle with...
Guys,

USM fan here.

Chill the F out on this.

-He came in with an excellent 2-seamer that was high-80s to 90 and an okay change. As a sophomore and junior in HS (when players are recruited), he probably threw mid-80s. Hell, there's a story about how he nearly quit baseball early in high school. Diamond in the rough who probably developed his last year of HS.
-Our pitching coach may be one of the best in the country. Every single pitcher that we have improves their control and increases their velocity. Last year, Hall's two-seamer sometimes moved so much that he had issues commanding it. His change was not what it is now. He's gotten better command of his two-seamer and increased it a couple of ticks and his change has turned into a really devastating weapon.

He's a guy that did not jump off the page but there was "pitchability" with a unique weapon (2-seamer) and he got with one of the best pitching coaches in the country.
You MAY see Hall for an inning late. Maybe. Friday starters are usually in play on Monday. But…115 pitches and all.

I hope this isn’t what happens, but you’ll most likely get Ethridge. To say I don’t like him against y’all would be putting it lightly.

This regional is insane.
Plenty of capable arms left for USM. I’m not that worried about depth. It’s more so just a question of whether or not those guys can pitch effectively against y’all’s offense.

We just have a lot of the conventional, overhand/three quarters delivery 91-93 with a good slider right handers that y’all see a lot of and hit well.

Storm (best lefty option, IMO, outside of Rogers) and Rhodes (righty submariner with a nasty slider) may be really key for us out of the pen.
Watch the fastball location with Waldrep. Throws extremely hard—will probably start off near triple digits.

He has struggled with locating it. For the most part, has struggled with good lineups who can catch up to velo

Slider is nasty but he has to rely on it too much when he doesn’t feel good about his fastball.

Possible first round pick next year. I think he’s a year away from being that true dominant starter.

I liked Riggins better against y’all. But we will see.
USM fan here.

Our pitching has been dominant against average to bad teams. They have still been pretty good against good teams (hold them to well below average) but not dominant enough to carry us. We will have to score runs. Speaking of which…

Our offense is in a weird place since the conference tournament. This is a lineup that has always been prone to slumps. But when we’ve slumped in the past, you would see few hits (so low average) but still hitting doubles and home runs (so slugging it pretty well) and able to draw some (not a ton but some) walks. Over the last 5 games, we are hitting at an okay average but getting nothing but singles. Mediocre average with no slugging and not drawing walks is not a good way to score runs.

So, what you saw yesterday and what we have seen over the last 5 games is not characteristic of our offense—even when slumping—but it’s where they are now.

Offense is highly dependent on home runs.

Probably the guys to watch for us at the plate are:

-Paetow (RS freshmen with a ton of raw talent)
-Dickerson (SS and #2 hitter—average and doubles)
-Ewing (sat out with a broken hand for a few weeks—came back early and was initially swinging it really well but in a big slump now)
-Wilks (sophomore…big time recruit out of HS…really strong kid but in a slump. Also sat for a few weeks with a strained oblique. Chases bad pitches.)
