re: USM 8 @ LSU 7 Final - ESPNU

You guys have an extremely talented roster. I’d agree that your talent at the plate well outpaces your pitching talent right now, but I know that you will bring in guys to load back up. That was the greatest single weekend of college baseball I’ve ever watched, and I would have still felt that way if y’all walked us off again like I feared you would.

Y’all have a program to be proud of and I would be shocked if you are not playing postseason baseball in Alex Box next year.

All USM starters throw a bullpen on the 3rd or 4th day after a start (depending on effort level, etc). Ostrander has not had a single starting pitcher have arm issues from baseball related activities in his 5 years at USM.

Correct. We have had a few guys come into the program coming off of Tommy John. None of them have had a re-injury. Gabe Shepard developed shoulder issues, but that was due to his violent mechanics - he wasn't overused at all.

Wow!

This is one of the problems with College Baseball. Kid threw 109 pitches on Friday. Now pitching again on 2 days rest risks injury that could lead to damage to his potential future earning.

It would be a bullpen day for him regardless. I assume he will be on a loose pitch count. I also do not think they would have green lit this unless he was feeling ready to go. This is not uncommon for any team in a regional. If Hilliard happens to get rolling today, I bet that LSU would ride him past his usual pitch limit as well.
Tanner started out pretty unremarkable. Was not highly recruited and was not even considered as a possible weekend starter through the end of last year. He came into game 6 of the regional against Ole Miss last year and put together a performance similar to the one last night by Storm. They hit his sinker into the dirt all night long. He wasn’t even our Friday night guy to start the year - it was Ben Ethridge. We still didn’t even know for sure that Tanner would stick as a weekend starter. But he has commanded a nasty sinker and unfair changeup that has led to his success. It’s just one of those scenarios where a guy really honed in on his craft to maximize on his ability.

Not a single fricking easy thing all weekend with these dickheads.

Almost like we might have a decent baseball team. Crazy idea, I know.
Matt Adams will start for USM.
2-2 5.91 ERA. 28:6 K/BB ratio in 21 innings.

Repertoire:
4-seam fastball 90-93
11-5 curveball low 70s
Changeup low to mid 80s

Can be very good if commanding all pitches, but if not then the fastball is liable to get hit hard. Last couple starts for him have been truncated (3-4 innings or so).
He came in as kind of a wild thrower. Struggled with control. Always had a big arm. Coach Oz has done an amazing job developing him. He’s probably gone to the draft when he’s eligible.
