yep, we could have won it without the m.v.p. j. mitchell, m. gibbs, matty ott d.j. lemaheu, anthony r., mahtook, nola, c jones, ect. 9 positions and there is 6 with three pitchers. before you say j mitchell was a smoke recruit. wrong, he was miles recruit.

Ok.. let's clarify & clean this thread up a little..
First, I am at a travel ball tournament... notice 2 coaches with score books... as I glance at one, he looks like Turtle Thomas. I'm shocked... you don't see an assistant coach from LSU every day...
I should have put all this in one block but I was posting from my ipad and it's hard to type on that thus... the various one-line posts.
On the Pontiff talking Coleman into staying deal... I didn't bother to check the math while I was talking to the guy. I think Pontiff died the year before LSU played Baylor in the S.R. at the old Alex Box... So, don't know if this part would add up or not.
As to Laval recruiting most of the CWS championship team... I thought he recruited more than he did... I guess he was only responsible for Schimpf, Dean and Coleman. But, I still think he got a raw deal. Smoke was following a legend in Skip...

Coleman was probably a freshman in high school when Pontiff died.
I assumed you meant Wally Sr, but I'm still not sure that makes much sense either coming from Thomas.

Wally died in 2002. Coleman wasnt at LSU until 3-4 years later
