Lael Collins should have opted out on dating women in case one was ever murdered.

Chad Jones should have opted out of driving vehicles.

Can you name me the last LSU player to drop from the first round due to a football injury? I’m sure there are some but can’t think of any

Seems like life is just as risky to your draft stock / nfl earnings as a playing injury.
Maybe it was just easier for marshal to get paid 3 weeks early (agent) and not worry about playing Bama and Florida. I’ll still root for him in the league, but won’t pretend it’s ok to quit whenever you feel like it, or it was bc of his family or draft $. It was just the easy road

I'm not defending him or any others that quit mid-season, though I understand why he's doing it. He's ready to go to the league and has almost no other avenue outside of attending college.
The NFL needs to change some stuff regarding eligibility to declare. IMO it should be one of the following:
1. Straight from high school (extremely rare and I don't think would actually happen)
2. 4 years of college or graduated to declare
3. NFL developmental league with no association to NCAA (not gonna happen. NFL loves their free farm)

The NFL uses the colleges to develop the players to a degree.
The college uses the players (to a much lesser degree than the NFL uses the colleges) to make money
The players are now starting to use the colleges to their own advantage. The NFL is obviously the clear winner here regardless of how you splice it and they'll do whatever they can to keep it running the exact same way.

It’s not taking bad about someone who quit to say they quit. If you don’t want to be called a quitter, don’t quit but why so many young people now can’t understand accountability is astounding.

Ahhh yes because opting out of a sales career is exactly like a college athlete opting out for the NFL. Congrats on the idiotic post.

I'm not sure you recognize the positives and negatives associated with acquiring future talent for the team YOU root for.

Thank you.

Do I agree with it, no.
But if you don't want players taking advantage of the "opting out", then give them something coaching-wise schematically to believe in.

Retaining Ensminger/hiring linehan was lazy. I'm sure Marshall could tell the difference between Linehan & Brady the second he stepped back on the field. Probably went against his gut like Chase, & gave it a chance in hopes of improving his stock.

There are plenty young assistants foaming at the mouth to get a chance to show off their scheming ability.
I think O should be given one more chance to make decent coordinator hires and that's it.

I think this has little to do with Covid & all the BLM shite, and just that LSU isn't very good this year, mainly due to coaching/shittey coordinators. Covid just gives them an excuse.

No, it’s bad selfish behavior on account of players and should draw reasonable scorn and social shaming.

If LSUs players didn’t quit in droves maybe the coaches could field a better team

I don't know this as absolute fact, but I have a strong suspicion about bama. While EVERY major program pays for their players (that's for your dumb arse irish), I think LSU needs to step up our "retainer game". Logic dictates what's keeping these stars at bama isn't about giving the old college try. They PAY those studs handsomely to skip the NFL for a year. I'm talking SEVEN FIGURES (tax free) for the big stars. Nothing else about their situation vs ours holds water.

Marshall would've been a 1st round pick even if he would've opted out before the season IMO.

He had first round talent sure but he needed a season to show what he could do. He was overshadowed last year because he got hurt and chase and Jefferson were awesome. He needed this season to get his draft stock up and as soon as he did he quit.

It’s the job of the fans to trash guys for leaving early

It is what separates the true fans from fair weather fans

I understand fan’s frustrations but I agree, especially when the players that have opted out played lights out for us.

This board could honestly use a vent thread during the season. People would be able to go in there and post and vent and complain about whatever.

Get a prospect to sign. Plays like a freshman his first year. Some good some bad. Plays well his sophomore year, then quits his 3rd year to prep for the draft.

No. Fcuk that.

Can we stop calling 'quitting the team', 'opting out' ?

They quit. Chase, Shelvin, Vincent, Marshall ... quit the team, period.
You don't accept a scholarship, benefit from the scholarship and exposure/training/experience that it provides you then 'opt out'. That's bullshite ... they quit. They left their brothers hanging and for Marshall to do it after his big show speech and the week before the Bama game is chicken shite.

The simplest solution is to punish character flaws in the draft. Quit on your team? I’ll take you round 2, and take the similar talent that didn’t quit round 1. That happens and the quitting stops

Those guys are likely to be the guys sitting out the last year of their contract anyway demanding new long term deal, they obviously aren’t worried about their team.

They won’t mandate a 4 years of college or graduated rule, because they are still going to take talent regardless if kicked out of school or skipping their 4th year.

Well, I will not hold back punches. frick Chase, all the others in between and now frick Marshall.

These young men gave up on their team, no other ways to put it. Covid is no threat to them but getting hurt is. I see now why Bama is way above LSU in class because of men like Najee Harris and Devonta Smith who could have been pussies and opted out, but they stayed and played and are #1 this year. Look at Jaylen Waddle, he got hurt but was a man and did not opt out like our little Pri-madona's.

Why don't the whole world start opting out like LSU players, then we would be in a heap of shite.

It pained me to write this but they are big pussies and LSU will only suffer from it, and its a messed up trend that needs to go away or we will never be able to sustain. We were number 1 then went into the shithouse overnight. If everyone would have stayed and played to give back to LSU like LSU gave them a chance, then we would have 1 or 2 losses max. What a shame! They quit on LSU and shame on them. Did Marshall not call for a players meeting a few weeks ago to get the team to start playing together... Then he decides 2 weeks later to dump his teammates. Way to go TM, JC, and all the others.
