ESPN NCAAF Stat Leaders

3rd in Offensive Yards per game (Very Balanced - 13th in Passing, 15th in Rushing)
1st in Rushing TDs
3rd in 1st Downs Gained
1st in 3rd Down Conversions

2nd in Defensive Yards per game
4th in Rushing Yards Allowed per game
4th in Rushing Yards Allowed per attempt
2nd in Sacks (1st in Sack Yardage)

Other Notes:
- LSU also has the nation's sack leader in Princewill Umanmielen as well as another tied for 8th in the country with Deuce Geralds. Deuce also leads all DTs in the country by a full 2 Sacks.
- Leavitt is tied for the lead in INTs thrown. I think we all agree that his decision making has improved drastically, but the 3 INT 2nd quarter against LA Tech is still haunting him statistically.
- Leavitt is tied for 5th among QBs in Rushing TDs with 6, despite Landen Clark taking another 4 Rushing TDs of his own.
- Jackson Harris is 12th in the country in Yards/Reception - I expect his volume to continue growing.

The fact that we have those stats and still feel that we haven’t played our best ball is telling. Huge contrast to Burger King’s “We’re spoiled”

I think we can all agree that with health this team is not only a playoff contender, but a title contender. The defense is good enough to make up for any offensive woes in big games. But we are banged up. Time will tell

I think the injury issues are overblown. With the insertion of Thomas at Safety and move for Benefield to Star I think the secondary is BETTER. The DL has no significant injuries that we know of. Weeks is a loss because he is an impact player, but Keys has experience and the other 10 starters are fine.

Trey'dez is a loss because there is no one else like Trey'dez on the team. But in the two games he's been out LSU's passing offense has been MORE efficient. Obviously, the competition level must be taken into consideration, but there hasn't been a drop in production. All of the OL is healthy. Same for the RBs and WR (except Wright, who was a backup). Clearly Leavitt's injury wasn't as severe as some may have worried because he played an entire 1/2 against a team LSU could have beaten with its backups. With 7 SEC games left I don't think Kiffin runs his starting QB out against McNeese if he's significantly injured.

Of course LSU would love to have Weeks and Green in the line up. But I think the doomsday concerns over the injuries are premature, if not overblown.

I think they are overblown a tad as well, however we're 1 injury away from being in real trouble at a couple spots which is where the real concern is.

All very fair. My only slight disagreement (if you can even call it a disagreement) re: the secondary is that Spears is elite. We will see how the secondary holds up vs the likes of Alabama etc. but I do agree that Kiffin even oversold the impact.

Our defense really isn’t getting enough credit nationally for their performance this year so far. Albeit most people have only seen the first half of the Ole Miss game (and then forget about the second half), but the statistics only back my point. Huge opportunity to make a point on the road in Lexington

We still don't really know what this team is yet. We played one top 25 caliber team and we loss. On the road, emotional environment, i know, but the point stands. @Kentucky should start to clear it up a little more. After the Mississippi State game, we should have a pretty good idea of what this team is going to be.

McNeese was hard to tell. Very little pressure, which causes the decision issues.
Played solid though

That first half remains the outlier. And, IMO, that was the result of a poor gameplan and a late adjustment to an injury more than anything else.

It was clear Baker was overly worried about Chambliss as a runner. This defense has been really aggressive all season and not afraid to challenge receivers. Yet, they were in that first half. Then, Spears got hurt and the initial insertion of Jimcoly was a bad move. Once Thomas moved to safety, Benefield came down to "star" and LSU stopped being passive, it looked like the defense we saw in the first two games. That's the same defense we've seen in the last two games.

Minchey isn't Chambliss and Sloan's passing approach is that of a mid-major school. They will throw sideline to sideline all game because he is terrified of the middle of the field.

Just a reminder we had just 10 rushing TDs all last season, no thats not a typo, 10 in 13 games; tied for 119th in the country

We are 1st in the country with 19 after 5 games this year. Just had 6 rushing TDs in 1 game

my biggest issue with Leavitt continues to be overall CONSISTENT accuracy. He's dropped some absolute dimes but even with one of those big Winnie Watkins passes over the middle that went for a big gain, Watkins had to adjust to catch it on his back hip. Strangely it seems to be when the guys are the MOST open when he has issues.

We've had a LOT LOT LOT worse. I know. And i really like Leavitt. I am sure he is more aware of it than anyone and is working hard and CLK is coaching him up. Getting to that next level of consistent accuracy brings him from great to elite though.

We're gonna be fine in ANY defensive battle. It's the high powered Offenses i worry about having to keep up with. Bama being one of them.

We average over 40 ppg are are currently a top 20 offense in the country passing or running the rock. Lane Kiffin offenses are built to play in shootouts. QB’s in year 1 usually grow throughout the year in lane’s system. Sam has been accurate since the ole Miss game. His hammy injury has actually done wonders for his accuracy as it’s forced him to hang in the pocket and scan the field instead of bailing early.

Plus this defense is nasty when allowed to be aggressive. Russell is talented but he isn’t gonna come into Death Valley at night and embarrass this defense. He will make his plays but so will we it’s good on good

Agreed. I dont trust him in big games against big time talent, like OM. He has shown a run first mentality.

You can do everything right, etc etc, but when you do decide, then it HAS to be accurate, in the SEC.

Not that I'm complaining about being third.. but Good Lord. How can this be true. Haven't we had 2 games where we beat/tied the all time LSU first down record?
Who's #1 and #2?
