This week marked two major milestones for Starlink Mobile.
SpaceX announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio of up to 14 megahertz of paired spectrum in the 800 MHz band. This prime low-band spectrum addresses one of the key remaining technical gaps that will pave the way for Starlink Mobile to become a major mobile carrier in the US.
Once we receive final FCC approval, Starlink Mobile will deploy a flexible architecture combining our satellite-to-mobile constellation in space with an advanced terrestrial deployment that can seamlessly connect devices everywhere. While Starlink Mobile’s global 2 GHz mid-band spectrum will provide high-bandwidth capacity in the United States, this new low-band spectrum will provide a coverage layer that ensures Starlink Mobile’s signal penetrates through obstacles, such as walls, and can provide service to customers’ devices even when they are in buildings. Critically, most existing mobile devices already support this underused band.
Starlink already operates the world’s most advanced broadband network from space, serving millions of customers across the United States and around the world with high-speed internet. With this new low-band spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can now become the first network operator to deploy both satellite and terrestrial spectrum. One network that provides Americans with a reliable service indoors, outdoors, in cellular dead zones, and everywhere in between.
FCC APPROVES NEXT GEN STARLINK MOBILE CONSTELLATION
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also approved Starlink Mobile’s Gen2 constellation application this week, authorizing SpaceX to launch 15,000 satellites that are optimized for 2 GHz spectrum globally. The V2 Starlink Mobile satellites will deliver more than 100 times the bandwidth of our current generation, bringing high-speed service directly to unmodified devices anywhere in the world. Additionally, the FCC authorized the full range of backhaul bands (in Ka/V/E/W) used by Starlink’s V3 broadband satellites, enabling them to operate with the existing Starlink gateway network.
We appreciate all the work the FCC staff put in to authorize this critical step toward the next era of satellite-to-mobile connectivity. From dense cities to the most remote and rural communities, this next-generation service will keep Americans connected no matter where they are.

I will ditch Verizon the days that this happens

Please tell Elon to hurry up. Can’t wait to drop Verizon like a bad habit. Their service has gone to shite. I’ve been a customer over 30 years dating back to Bellsouth then Cingular. Same account, same number. Areas where I had good service both voice and data I can now barely get a text.

Once it’s available to the public, I will be getting it. I would finally have cell service at deer camp.

You sure about this?

Elon will get the FedGov to subsidize this so they can give free phones to poors..
He is a master of getting the absolute stupidest customer (the government) to prop up any business he runs
Hats off to him

Switch now. I dropped Verizon more than a year ago, went to Mint. Have not noticed a change in anything except more money in my pocket.
Then switch to Starlink once it is up and running.

Bellsouth Cingular
Pretty sure that's AT&T pal

Will cause price wars part 2. Used to be phone service prices were really cheap during wild west days. The other carriers will have to reduce prices to keep customers.

AT&T will lose my home internet and four cell phones the day Elon goes live.

Difficult to do with 30+ lines.
I don't see Mint as a business solution yet, but individuals seem happy with the service.

Same for me except I went with pure talk. Literally 1/3 the cost and equal or better service.

I swapped to AT&T and cut my bill from $450 per month to $200 per month AND that includes high speed internet. The moment I did it Verizon called and offered their phone service at $300 per month. I get better reception also.

Agree 100%. He had a ludicrous idea to launch rockets into space and then have the rocket LAND ITSELF to save money. Completely failed. Reusable rockets? What an idiot!!

I would bet a Tesla phone is in the works at some point

I bet they will destroy all of the major carriers in 10 years. It's going to be super reliable, hot spotting as a wireless network. And they will probably undercut everyone.

BellSouth/Cingular ——> AT&T, not Verizon
