Jake Brown is the best all around player on the field.. and if Stanny is the best outfielder from a defensive standpoint.. 1, 2, ?

Correct. They had him playing very shallow.

There was also strong wind blowing towards left. People cherry picking one play should study it before making themselves sound foolish. Most big leaguers miss that ball from where he started, it was crazy that he was able to get as close as he did.

Yes. He was playing abnormally shallow, and shaded towards the LF side. Ball was hit deep into CF. Ball probably started out off the bat to his left and the wind carried back over his right shoulder, which caused the turning as he was trying to run a mile to the ball.

People concerned in the least over this play are foolish, but its not surprising. Its also the only think they have to be able to complain about tonight.

It was bad positioning.....period. He isn't a bad defender, he doesn't need to switch positions. He is perfectly fine in CF. The damn person they want playing CF over him hasn't played a game in weeks.

Stanfield had his fair share of defensive blunders last year. He's not definitively better than Curiel during his time here IMO. Do the stats suggest differently?

Curiel is a good CF but that ball was a test that great CF’s make. Tougher play for a LH but still.

You see how shallow he was? It’s wild he almost even made the play. Stanfield wouldn’t have caught that one either. He woulda tripped over his hat back tracking

Looked like last years Auburn Curiel there

You must have forgotten Stanfield against Auburn last year. It was rough

The whole team looked rough against Auburn last year! Couldn't hit....and were totally perplexed by the wall in left. They made up for all of that by making an exorbitant amount of errors....let's not ever compare anything to that series again

Bro this is a message board about college athletics. Debates like these are kind of the name of the game. Why are you trying to moderate discussion?

Curiel is a better defensive outfielder than Brown.

Yes, because of how much better he is hitting this season vs lefties.

None of them are bad; they are all very good. We're arguing about which beauty pageant queen (from back in the days when they actually judged that by beauty) is prettier right now.

THIS! He got burned. Whether that be due to his own positioning or the coaches. With that said he didn't look comfortable trying to catch up. Seems odd that they took two very solid OFs, LF & CF, and swapped them....but in CJJ I trust.

It's not odd at all. You have an upcoming first round draft pick that was a freshman last year. JJ didn't feel like putting the pressure of playing CF on him was a good idea coming in. He was always going to play CF this year.

Remember when Milam started as second base as a freshman?

My first thought when I see a good player almost struggle with a play on a ball. I say this as anyone who's ever coached baseball at any level, you're going to move a player and the ball is going to go right where they were.
