What ever negative effects the whole debacle had on recruiting were very much mitigated by the way Miles shined in the post aTm game press conference and the way the whole world got to see how much the players (and most of the fans) love Coach Miles when he was carried off the field and sang the alma mata with the players. It put a great bit of media attention on Miles and his great personality and love by the players really came through.

Smart guy there makinbacon. I'm glad you happened along. Just so you know: reign= the period during which a sovereign rules rein= a long, narrow strap attached at one end to a horse's bit, typically used in pairs to guide or check a horse while riding or driving

Dude, you forgot "rain". You can't take anything for granted with this mouth-breather.

So what should have Les done? Fired Chavis? That is what you are suggesting.

It was obvious both those guys were not doing the job in recruiting. Chavis is still a great DC but he recruited one LB in his time here - Clifton Garrett - a complete bust. Haley was not even a good line coach but he was John's boy so Miles couldn't touch him. Look at the 2013-4 teams on DL and LB and tell me where they had taken us.

I knew things were getting real when Chavis wasn't able to take Haley with him to A&M. Even the Ags weren't that stupid. So John dropped his buddy for the bucks. Check in at Texas and see how happy they are with Haley's performance this year. Chavis did his usually fine job with the Aggie D and has contributed nothing in recruiting. Doubt that will change.

So what I'm suggesting is that Les might have done some damn thing, any damn thing, to correct that huge hole on the team. For 4 mil a year he should have noticed that JC was a part time employee and Haley was on an extended vacation.

Why?

Because we have next year's Heisman trophy winner and we return 18 starters, and will sign the #1 recruiting class = National Champions

Kanell is semi trashing LSU and largely trashing Shaq on ESPN news for Shaq's comments.

Stability is good for football programs, especially recruiting. Threatening to fire your programs most successful coach during a 10*-win season was not a good thing.

using that "logic," you could never fire Miles.

Seems like you're valuing stability more than actual results on the field.

Firing Miles is not what I am criticizing. Publicly threatening to fire a successful coach does not help when it comes to recruiting new players or hiring new assistant coaches. It does far more harm than good.
