2 2/3 innings of no hits 1 walk?

He wasn’t going 11 innings

Could have gone 9 and pushed the need for the pen back two innings.

That's not the lab

I know everyone one is dogging on the pitching lab, but it’s about developing pitchers using information aka “data” to help pitchers get better. Seeing as they have one of the best staffs in the country (and play in a band box apparently) seems like it works very well.

Ah, so he's not a killer. Got it.
He got tagged a few times and maybe he knew his stuff was going downhill and didn't want to lose the gsme for them?

I have a hard time blaming Rhett. Kid was one of the best pitchers we've faced all year

That's not fair, especially when they handed it off to a guy that was also successful against us.

Or given up a run because he was out of gas and lost in 9 instead of extras. It’s not like they were down to scrubs or the bullpen has been taxed like ours

in the 6th. he had a very routine 7th. leadoff walk then a bloop out by Beloso and struck out Jobert and Thompson.

My point being he knew we were winning this game with our bat. It was a matter of time.

there was no evidence on the mound of him being out of gas. only faced 4 batters in the 7th, no drop in fastball velocity. wasnt hanging off speed pitches.

so if he really decided that himself, again..wuss.

He was doing that every inning, I was thinking something wasn’t right but he still did a fantastic job

Bullpen hubris might have been their issue. Perhaps our lack of options was somewhat of an advantage in the end ?

I would not use this as any type of measuring stick.

Thompson sure, but Jobert had him 3-0 so you know he was sitting dead red and still couldnt catch up to Lowder's fastball on 3-0 or 3-1.

WF still pitched another 3 scoreless innings. The loss is so far away from that decision.

I also didn't understand them taking out Massey. We couldn't touch his stuff and they yanked him as well.

This is the head scratcher. I know Crews had just hit him hard but he was absolutely dealing.

I get it. But Jobert has all year been completely feast or famine. Good pitchers. Bad pitchers. Doesn't matter. He seems to either be on or off. Last night he was off. 0-4, 3 K's.

I guess I believe that Lowder did what he thought was best for the team. He was out of gas, and didn't want his ego to keep him out there and lose the game. Especially knowing how loaded the bull pen was. He was working on a day short rest I believe.

And I remember a few weeks ago, when Skenes pitched his best game. He did it on an extra day rest. They interviewed him and asked him why his stuff was so much sharper that day. He said a lot of it had to do with extra rest, and his arm feeling rested.

I think arm rest is a huge factor for pitchers.

I've not been the most positive guy on Jobert through his career at LSU.

But if the Jobert that showed up in Gainesville last year shows up in the championship series, we win in 2.

we can thank crews for massey being taken out. he doesn't hit that single massey stays in. WF was taking no chances, or so they thought. analysis told them this was their move, but what was actually happening said no. hindsight is 20/20

I completely agree. I came to a point this season where I accepted Jobert for what he is. Dude at every bat is a threat to hit a bomb. Or hit a rope. You take the good with the bad, and be happy. And his defense has actually improved.

I can't get there yet with Thompson. I don't know what happened with him, but he hasn't been a dependable at bat for a long time, and it seems to be getting worse. What are his stats for this CWS? Something like 1-23?

I get it. No hard core competitor wants to be out of the game at the key moment, but it’s a very mature and unselfish thing to admit when another guy might be better for the job that’s left.
