He really put a damper on tailgating and changed the game day experience for the worse. He was a terrible fit.

I have been following LSU atheletics for a heck of a long time. I don’t remember a single AD that fans were happy with. They are paid a heck of a lot of money simply to be the “bad guy”.

He did a few good things at LSU in non revenue sports but every AD’s tenure is defined by the big 3. He never elevated the basketball program which had some excited given he was at Duke for years.
His defining moment is Ed orgeron which was pretty fricking underwhelming. None of that run happens if we don’t have Joe burrow fall from the sky.
Seriously imagine how bad things would have been if Joe didn’t come to LSU. Football would have been 7-6, basketball a dumpster fire, baseball downhill, all while Nikki fargas aimlessly rides her Harley around Baton Rouge going .500. damn.
You could say the inception of beach volleyball and giving the gymnastics program the practice facility it needed to take the next step are his biggest successes. Wade was a huge success at the time but obviously he self sabotaged.
And like many have said on here he was a PR nightmare. He fought for LSU’s best interest but it always felt like he had zero influence compared to other AD’s.

Theres a ton to gripe about with Alleva.
But, he also didn't have the media savvy and PR chops of woodward.
Woodward came out of the Wade firing with a large contingent of LSU fans believing that (1) he was forced to do the unpopular thing he did (fire wade) and (2) he also heroically saved the football program (secret deal to fire wade to save football).
I do not believe it anymore but it was a very impressive media/PR strategy.

He was a lazy yes man and go research into the Duke scandal when you get a chance. Prime example

The only saving grace on that is the NCAA was leveraging our football team against us. However, that still doesn’t excuse him for rolling out the shite show we have for MBB. In all honesty though, at least for me, as long as we have a strong baseball and football team I’m good.

Sooooo, would you rather the two stooges who loved coeds more than football? Let’s talk! Do you really think Miles or Orgeron would have had more success than Kelly with what Kelly had to take over? 40 scholarship players and the transfer portal in full effect! shite, Miles and Orgeron wouldn’t know what to do if they didn’t have a roster stacked with the two deep filled with 5*. At least BK is navigating this whole new era with a pretty good record. Also remember, Saban was dog walked by Spurrier almost every time he faced him at LSU.

Wasn’t qualified for a top sec sports school.

I’ve heard on here that Woodward has a big dick, whereas Alleva has a tiny one

He did nothing wrong....He did everything right. Here is the list of what he did RIGHT
[1] Fired Les Miles and replaced him with Ed Orgeron! Then we achieved the unthinkable...losing to a Sun Belt team in Tiger Stadium. Had it not been for Burrow, Steve Ensminger, Joe Brady, David Aranda, we would have got the program earlier to the ultimate destination much faster but we got there eventually with a 6-6, 6-7 record with a 42 man roster.
[2] He hired Trent Johnson....put basketball on a trajectory....then Johnny Jones...accelerated the trajectory...hired Wade...got racing to the trajectory with probation and NCAA probation and to where we are.
[3] Baseball for lords mercy was left untouched.
[4] Hired Nikki Fargas...who to a powerhouse to mid major in WBB...
[5] Softball...botched hiring the Alabama coach and hired Torina who has actually turned out better.
[6] Botched firing Les Miles in 2015...takes talent to achieve it....Botched hiring Jimbo Fisher....we really jumped over a snake on its way through the I10 from Talahasee to College Station.
Could anyone have achieved more! That is why so many of us baws will always love ole Joe A.

I'm glad to see people mentioning Aramark. I'll add that Alleva is who banned Pregame and Neck from being played in DV.

Herman was never coming here. That was a money play by Herman camp.
we'll never know that for sure now because Alleva was too much of a pussy to even try.
he famously said (paraphrasing) "we're not getting into a bidding war with Texas for a coach"
fast forward a few weeks and rumors are swirling that Herman wants to hire Aranda at Texas.
Alleva made Aranda the highest paid assistant in College Football.
Keeping Aranda was the correct choice.
But think about how we got there.
Our AD decided that for the most important hire and AD will ever make was not worthy of a "bidding war".
But an assistant coach on the other hand required that LSU completely open the wallet to make sure Texas (the same damn school) didn't get him.

His attitude and incompetence destroyed his relationships with prominent donors and the money stopped coming in.
Woodward was brought in to repair those relationships and expand the donor base, and he has done that.

Idvc what he did at duke. I want to know his wrongdoings at LSU.
What he did at Duke should have disqualified him from ever being any kind of administrator anywhere. He literally ruined lives at Duke.

He lucked into hiring Aranda because he totally botched the handling of Chavis’ contract. Obviously that worked out in the end because Aranda was great. Alleva refused to negotiate with Chavis, and allowing him to walk for a lateral move within the division was a huge embarrassment. Schools like A&M and Texas were coming for our coaches because they knew Alleva and F King were incompetent.

Here's what Joe Alleva did wrong. He gave LSU and it's fans the second greatest season in conference history.
Without Joe Alleva, 2019 doesn't happen. He begins by hiring Ed Ogeron (knowing that at the time he had no choice). But instead of leaving him to his own devices, he makes sure Dave Aranda hangs around as a stabilizing force, by making him the highest paid coordinator in the country. Alleva knew all too well that to leave the program in the hands of Coach Whiteboots and "the Slinger" alone would've spelled utter disaster.
What I always heard is that Alleva told Ed to stay out of Aranda's way and that Aranda reported directly to him and I believe it. Alleva knew Ed was every bit the idiot this board knows he is. Alleva apparently told Aranda to keep Ed up to speed on things but not much more.
Now with regard to Joe Brady, Alleva of course had a direct hand in that as well, but to what degree I'm not certain, other than to say he knew how incompetent Steve Insminger was and wanted someone else involved on the offensive side of the ball. I don't think he had a hand in choosing Joe Brady but he was more than happy to approve the hire.
Oh and another thing. He also hired Will Wade.
Why this fanbase shits on Alleva every chance they get is weird to me. Without him, they don't get to perpetually live in the past.
