In all seriousness I found out while googling to make sure I had my years right and that it was Haskins. Several of those OSU qbs under Meyer run together in my mind.

I’m sure that I had heard about it at the time but it was completely gone from my mind

If Chambliss is so good then why was he second string to start the year and why was he playing D2 last year?

Not FCS.

D 2.

I get some guys get missed but I just have trouble making sense of that.

There are some great players that come out of even D2. Chambliss had a great year, especially running the football last year at Ferris St. Ferris St playoffs went like this:

78-17
41-7
48-38
49-14 national title win over Valdosta St

He was a pretty good but not elite thrower, however in limited action this year has been elite throwing it so far (just watch the highlights specifically, hit some NARROW windows deep).

He went to high school in Grand Rapids near Ferris St, wasn't a huge standout but threw for 1,700 yards and 17 TD senior season, enough to get a scholly offer there and he ended up there staying very close to home. Was a backup in 2022 and 2023 then finally ended up starting in 2024 and had a great season. In the portal he got offered by a number of teams including New Mexico, Utah, Temple, Western Kentucky, Minnesota and even OSU inquired about him and wanted to see if he would move up to be a backup QB to Sayin as they wanted an experienced guy in the room they lacked (but he turned it down immediately saying he wanted opportunity to start).

He was set to go to Temple and they allotted $300k NIL for him but then Ole Miss came in swinging last minute with a $500k NIL offer and chance to compete to be starting QB so he took that. Ole Miss admittedly thought he was a backup at best but has looked good enough to not only take over for injured Simmons but probably entirely take his job to this point. Simmons also hasnt been necessarily great out the gate either though.

Why throw out these stats? If you ask me, these incompletions are still the QBs fault.

Some guy named Bill Belichek thought the same of Tom Brady before Bledsoe's injury.

Watch the tape on him last few games, he's been red hot. It doesnt mean he is going to tear us apart, but theres good reason hes starting instead of their original starter when their original starter can most definitely play now.

He has 6 big time throws to 0 turnover worthy throws in his 2 starts so far. He's made some ridiculous throws and is very very mobile. Tulane is going to have nightmares about this kid for a long time, he threw for over 300 (on just 27 attempts) and ran for another 113 on them (not incl. sack yardage). He's been slicing teams up down the field.

No, he has never seen a defense like he will about to see, but it doesnt mean the guy hasnt looked great so far, because he definitely has.

Sounds like he prefers to go deep when flushed out of the pocket, unless he tucks and runs.

Last year, that would have meant disaster for our defense. This year, I like our chances if that's what he wants to try and do.

Pretty impressive completion percentages though.

If memory serves me, Joey B was 2nd string at “The" Ohio State. Maybe a change in scenery is all Chambliss needed. Maybe the OM offensive schemes fit his game.
Let’s wait until Saturday. LOTS of questions about both teams.

You're a pilgrim in an unholy land talking like this.

LSU at 17th in total defense and the speed at linebacker gives me reason to believe that Chambliss will have a harder time doing what he does on Saturday

Who has LSU played:

Clemson: 68th total offense
Louisiana Tech: 92nd total offense
Florida: 94th total offense

Ole Miss: 8th total offense

Cuts both ways. LSU hasn't seen an offense like Ole Miss; Ole Miss hasn't seen a defense like LSU. Should be interesting.

Looks like Simmons outplayed him in the summer?

Doesn't matter now though does it. Dude took his opportunity and is running with it.

Exactly! DEF needs to continue to do their job and play assignment FB. I like our athletes at every level to keep him contained and tackle well in space. Hopeful the DL can get upfield, and added pressure from the LB's on selected plays creates disruption and off script/timing results. Looking forward to watching it unfold Saturday afternoon.

I did not watch the Arkansas game, but Tulane seemed very comfortable with dropping back in coverage and playing conservatively not to give up the big play. Chambliss, to his credit, diced them up pretty good in that soft zone. He will not see a soft zone Saturday.

he hasn't had to face any DBs or safeties like ours yet. I think his receivers have been running just about wide open. It's easy to complete those passes. Against LSU he will have to be throwing into some tight windows.

Lots of NIL money promised to Simmons who has been in the system longer.
