So, the question is IF Perkins returns, what exactly is his role?

He will play the Star. He was going to play the Star the rest of the year had he not gotten hurt anyway. Burns would either have sucked at deep safety or been relegated to the bench.

the turning point was the linebacker play since Perkins went down.

Yeah, but this was also around the same time Zy Alexander came back fully healthy. Our secondary has been much better since then.

This is not true. It was better immediate from game 1. It has taken them a few games but the effort on defense right away was night and day. They were able to disrupt at least in spurts. There was none of that the last two years.

I think you have to put him at the star position, that LB/S hybrid that Major Burns is playing right now.

My issue with Perk is his soft tackling. I have not seen him try to put a crushing tackle on anyone. He is uber talented, but lacks the "I want to hurt you" mentality.

He's NFL bound. Will go in 2nd-3rd round based off talent.

Any position he desires he was a first round pre season Perkins is not a bust in college. How many first rounders are bust check out the Saints

I've been super critical of our defense all year, because those first few games were NOT an improvement over last year, considering the 90 million dollars in coaching changes we made. We were 90th in total defense after playing USC, USCe, Nicholls, and UCLA, not exactly powerhouse offenses.

We were top 30 in 3rd down defense during that stretch and top 5 in havoc rate so you not seeing the improvement was on you because there were signs of massive improvement early on. And with good coaching we've continued to improve since then.

You move him all over the field let roam like his freshman yr. Monster man . he will make plays he has a knack for the ball . This is what he should've been doing the last 2 yrs

He was the highest graded coverage LB last year. He’s made for the Star position.

He can barely line up and play one position and you want to move him all over the field. He can maybe play the star but is better as a 3rd down rusher or spy. He's not an every down player.

Correct, in this defense he can play the Star position like his fresh year but he’s not an inside guy and we don’t use an OLB so he’s either gotta play Star or be a situational player.

The only thing Perkins is capable of becoming NFL ready to do in the next 1-2 years is rush the passer. His coverage skills are average, ability to diagnose plays and get downhill from the middle are average. His first step and ability to dip beneath the Offensive Tackle is elite. He just needs to develop some counter rush moves which is not hard to do when your fastball is already THAT good.

This has always been the only move that makes sense. It doesn't take much film study to see that he can't play MLB or Secondary.

If he comes back you use him as a pass rush specialist and running QB spy.

If Perkins was a few inches shorter I think he’d be a RB

a few pounds lighter he’d be a Safety.

I still think he is a safety.

Burns is done after this year IF Perkins came back i’d try him at star.

But I doubt he comes back.
