He will be a huge addition to next year idgaf what anyone says.
Good thing about having our d coordinator is he is building the defense this year and everyone will be going into next year with the knowledge on what is expected and what needs to be worked on. If Harold come back next year he will be bigger and hopefully able to take on blockers better, his roll will probably be the star like burns this year, (SS/OLB type) meaning a less defined role and mainly just a playmaker that they will tailor there responsibilities too. And if all else failed and his knee is still not 100% he will be an outstanding situational edge rusher/spy that will be much needed.
I hope he come back bc rn I think he is 2nd rounder but a solid year next year makes him a 1st rounder. I do not begrudge anyone leaving to pros early though after all I have seen in college ball with guys coming back for sr year and getting hurt

He'll have to work on some coverage skills
I wanna say he was our highest graded player in pass coverage in 2023.

I assume he will go pro

I don't see him returning.

and the turning point was the linebacker play since Perkins went down.
I would add that the secondary has been playing much much better as well.
I think it has more to do with the natural progression of that big of a coaching change.
It takes time to learn the system, trust the system and execute.
Obviously Weeks has been a difference maker but I think in his shadow we see improved secondary play as well as a new defensive philosophy taking root and becoming second nature to the players.

To the amateur eye, no. To those of us that actually understand football, the defense actually showed mild improvement from the first week forward.
Yes, I agree - I think there has been incremental improvement each week. The D-Line has improved by leaps and bounds, as have the linebackers.
The talent just is not LSU caliber defensive talent - it's not. there are some nice pieces and we are not devoid of talent but it's not as much as we're used to and nor is the depth what it should be or what we're used to.
Despite that we are edging closer and closer to getting maximum production from what we have and IMHO that's all you can ask for. Why we don't have the talent we're used to is another discussion.

This. The defense was definitely mildly improved in the first few weeks, and now it’s very much improved compared to last year.

Be honest and tell him he would be a package player if he comes back unless he substantially improves

There's a fair chance that they encourage him to declare/transfer. Not because he's a bad player, but because he costs a lot of money to keep and are as good or better without him.
Use that money on a DT, WR or safety next year. You may also need an OL or 2 from the portal.

He needs a big money year to get him back in the first round.
Honestly, he'll grade as a high 2nd rounder after the combine. Probably his best bet to get money now.

I honestly doubt he ever plays for LSU again; I see NFL, or with the way the defense is playing without him, transfer portal in his future.
But if he does return, I say WE dont worry about it and trust Blake Baker has a bette feel for the players he has to work with now.

They’ll renegotiate the contract or let him walk imo
Austin Thomas has a lot they’re adding to the payroll next season

Put me in the group that we’ll never see Perkins play another down for LSU again.
95% chance he goes pro and 5% chance he transfers imo.
Honestly I think it’s best for both parties to move on.
That said, I’ll always look fondly at Perk for 2022.
His 3 game stretch of OM, Bama, and Arkansas was simply legendary!

In my opinion his lack of physicality before getting hurt indicates he has eyes on the NFL and did not want to get hurt. Then, ironically, by going half speed he got hurt. The NFL will look at his attitude so he best be prepared for scrutiny regarding his effort early in the season

Was he around the ball as much as weeks? Was he as sure a tackler as Weeks and Penn?

This brings back Justin Vincent flashbacks.

You sit him down and tell him where his strengths are and if he wants to play that position then he’s welcome here. If he insists that he’s the Mike, then you wish him well.
