I have a degree in journalism from LSU. First thing we were taught 1) report the facts!!. Make sure your sources are reputable. Recheck and vet your sources again. I was never taught to interpret the news. I don’t need or want your opinion. We also were required to take course on journalism ethics and the law. Is that still a thing nowadays?

My guess is the standards you studied are no longer applicable. I know for a fact reporters barely have to pass their stories through editorial muster now so it would stand to reason all standards are out the window.

Same ilk as the mow-ron who’s been booted from this thread. Might be his alias actually. They sound equally retarded.

Umm...When community development is effective, there is less crime, less disparity between citizens, better jobs available, a more talented workforce, and less overall issues that impact residents. Community development doesn’t necessarily solve problems in a city; it reduces problems and increases opportunities for growth. Without community development, both economic and business development suffer greatly.
Let me preface this by annotating I didn't write the above excerpt, I copied it from an article. However, it accurately pinpoints why it's important to help the community around you
Imagine living in a nice neighborhood with low crime. Next to you is another neighborhood full of crime. It's in your communities best interest to "uplift" the nearby neighborhood because eventually your crime rate will increase, they'll soon be committing crimes in your neighborhood. You help your community by helping theirs. We live in a such a me me me society. SMH. It's amazing that individuals don't see "why" it's important for an entity (business or university for instance) to assist with improving the surrounding community. BTW, it takes more than just money to improve a community. There has to be a commitment of time, money, as well as other resources.

I'm not sure what period of history you are referring to when "people sold their kids for a bag of beans" but in any case that is a rather harsh definition of have nots. Most of the people in this country live pay check to pay check and one medical emergency means they lose everything. Two percent of the population own 90 percent of the assets of this country. The government supports the big multi's with government contracts, too big to fail bailouts and a tax code which allows them to pay no taxes. The Fed not only props up the stock market but makes sure the rich get richer. The only thing they give us is a small check and that stuff they grow mushrooms in.

Income inequality in the U.S. is greatest between the top and bottom of the black community.
As opposed to the Top of the white and bottom of the black community? This comment is just dumb

The article is hilarious.
Some guy feels sorry for himself for supposedly being too poor to buy his kids Christmas presents. But why is this middle-aged man with 3 kids to support in grad school?
But he gets free tuition and a university job in diversity affairs (in other words a fake job where LSU just hands him money for producing nothing of value).
If I quit working to be a middle-aged student, I couldn't buy my kids shite, either. I'd also have to pay tuition and wouldn't get a minority set-aside job.
Actually an interesting read. The subject of the article sounds like a good guy. He never makes a racist statement. Sounds like a real optmist.
The article is really about wealth gaps. Really about the country. The actors/setting are used as a microsom of larger realities. No need to be do sensitive.
