Why?

Just because it had "LSU" on its hat?

Meanwhile, LSU had freshman Chris Reid starting at 3rd.

And Mainieri has a better postseason record than Smoke.

I know you hate Paul, but you don't have to glorify Smoke just justify Paul's time at LSU being up. Paul is doing that himself right now.

Guess we can't make a run at Schlossnagle since Coastal beat TCU in that tournament, too.

Smoke was fired because he missed the post season for the first time in 17 years. That’s what got him fired. We live in a different era of baseball now. The SEC is more competitive now than it was when Smoke was in charge.

But I’m not trying to defend CPM fire him!

The OP said that Smoke only had 1 sub .500 season and all I did was add another fact to that about SEC win%. I gave no opinion whatsoever then you launched into a series of false accusations about things I didn’t say or imply.

This is correct (now). It wasn't before the start of '21.

Right, they were dead even at 59.4% SEC win% before the season started. CPM has fallen behind with this 1-8 start.

You have to understand that Pulmonary fans believe he is LSU baseball. A lot of these fans are neurotic and self absorbed so if Mainieri fails they fail and they prefer to be right than what’s best for LSU.

His 2007 season, if he was allowed to continue was going to be even worse

I get that your “thing” is to be the resident baseball know it all contrarian but give me a fricking break. You have zero reason to act like you know what was going to happen in 2007. It would’ve been reasonable to say that LSU football would’ve taken a nosedive in 2018 if Ed O were fired in 2017 and look at how that turned out.

I know that you’re such a baseball genius that you’ve simulated the 2007 season thousands of times in your head but let’s get real. On paper, Smoke and Mainieri post 2010 have had very similar careers
quote:

it was alot more top heavy

This isn’t football. “Top heavy” doesn’t matter because LSU isn’t losing to the bottom teams either way and they’re not getting physically shredded over the course of the season because they can’t pull the starters in the 3rd quarter. It’s baseball. There have always been 4-5 or more elite teams in the SEC for us to compete with for our ultimate goal of winning the CWS
quote:

not nearly as many teams cared as much

ok. Yep, no one gave a shite about baseball until 2010
quote:

out as much money into facilities, locker rooms, stadiums

You’re completely off topic and grasping at straws to try to win your little argument now
