I doubt he has much sway anymore, but he definitely used to. When I was in college I worked at Ruth’s Chris the year that we played Stony Brook in the regional. Skip would come in there often. I remember working his table and overheard him talking about moves he was advising Paul to make. They even made a toast at the table “TO OMAHA!”

That didn’t turn out well

Skip is an icon. Always will be. And, according to my cousin Chad Ogea, he will always tell you the truth. Even if it hurts. Thanks for still being around, Skip.

I heard he told Herring that he reminds him of Mestepey and to get back out there and give us another 6 shutout today.

Please post less and think about what you are saying before you do in the future.

Not the point of my post at all. Just a video I thought may relate to the op.

Can see this. But op didn’t word it like that. He made it sound like skip is helping him daily with decisions.

It’s more like they eat lunch together once or twice a week and JJ bounces ideas off him. Skip is out of his era, but he’s no dummy.

He did call Braswell after his clutch SEC Tourney hit.

As noted, and CJJ has confirmed, he & Skip talk regularly, especially in the off season & as the season progresses. He's said he would meet Skip for coffee at Skip's home "often". And Crews said last year that, pre game, the team would get together, in the batting cages area, turn off the lights, lay down & work on visualizing their play in the upcoming game. A Skip method. Too, CJJ showed a toy toilet & said the players were told to flush their bad experiences. Another Skip method. Watched a couple of preseason scrimmages & Skip was often sitting in the dugout. But the message from several parties is Skip is available for advice IF asked.

Skip is the godfather in retirement. Gives words of wisdom, stories of glory and encourages the team to “Hold the Rope”.. he has way to much dignity and class to interfere

Thompson picked up on that quick and moved the conversation along quickly to his book.

Skip's very good at relating to players. He's forgotten more interpersonal skills than most people have in a lifetime.

That being said, JJ is pushing all the right buttons.

Lmao at this point he's a geriatric cheerleader. Sure he can give advice like all of our elders but nothing more.

No. I believe he is a baseball fan, and an LSU super fan, and at most he provides positive feedback to players without “coaching” the players. He is a real legend of the sport and I’d think the whole organization appreciates what he does; alone with coach Paul. Same thing. I love to see their presence and I’d think JJ does too!

Kinda cool, but no way it has any impact.. Skip is super old and a young kid is happy to meet him, but won't listen to advice.

Says more about the kid if that were the case. Not saying this is but why wouldn’t a player not listen to a goat?

Pretty sure Skip is privately helping CJJ with his decisions, imo.

How dare we give credit to the current coach when the team is winning.

Did you see the clip of Michael Braswell III talking to Skip on the phone? He kept saying what an honor it was to be congratulated by Skip and how honored he was to be recognized by Skip. Don't understand why people love to be so negative. Skip is a legendary icon and anyone who plays baseball at LSU would certainly be honored to receive any advice or pointers from the greatest ever.
