When Skenes is limited, last thing you want is an opener. If he struggles and gets pulled early, you’re scrambling to cover a ton of innings. Let him start, I’d rather 3-5 innings of zero ball to build a lead than bring him in down.

Why is the “speculation” that Skenes will start celebrated on here, but the “speculation” that he will come out of the pen gets so much hate?

Just an interesting observation

Can Ack pitch to a batter or two? There will be plenty of time to rest after today.

just don't see him starting. On a limited pitch count you're going to try to pitch him in a spot that is most effective. The first 3 innings is not the most impactful way of doing it.

Haven’t seen mentioned yet, but if you start someone else, and then plan on putting Skenes in around 3-4th inning, the FL batters likely will have adjusted to the timing of the starter by then, which will make the adjustment to Skenes even more difficult than usual.
In My Low BB IQ opinion.

Because one of the keys to Skenes' success is how he has perfected his recovery, preparation, and warm up routine to maximize performance and minimize injury. You mess with that as little as possible. Don't get cute. Let him do his thing. He'll deliver.

This is not convincing at all. Every other argument favors not starting him.

Skenes cannot get all of them, this is the most efficient way.

Have you watched Skenes this year? He probably could

Getting all of them perfectly, assuming no hits, would be 81 pitches. Even assuming the batters get a few in play that are immediately outs, that's still 70+ pitches. Tall order for any pitcher on 3-days rest after 120.

Because he has a very particular warm up routine that, especially on limited rest, you can't rush.
You'd basically have to have him ready to go from the very start in case the starter did something like, oh I dunno, got a in a 6-0 hole without recording a single out? It's literally happened this season so not that far fetched.

Skenes starts or doesn't pitch

pregame routine for a starter very different than reliever. some very good starters have struggled as relievers(at first)

Then don’t change his pregame routine. Have him start his routine later and bring him in to start an inning rather than rushing into the middle of an inning.

Anyone give any thought that while Paul Skenes would probably like to win a natty he probably feels like he has done all he could for LSU and he is ready for his MLB career? This kid is from California not LA and has only been here one year.
