He pitched well tonight - only 1 ER through 5 IP. Maybe they pulled him to keep his pitch count down across the season.

We’ve gone from guys pitching 250 innings to 100 pitch count games to now throttling back number of pitches at 130 innings to 65. Good thing is the Pirates won’t ever have to account for postseason innings.

I hope he isn't but I think he's hurt. Nobody throwing that hard for that long goes without a surgery sooner or later. Pirates should shut him down the rest of the year; they aren't playing for anything.

All criticism aside on Livvy, I’ve bashed her a fair share.
She very CLEARLY wants to live a different lifestyle than him. She loves to see and be seen. Case in point the baywatch thing, white parties etc. That’s not his lifestyle, they worked for a season and I think that season is over. She just seems like the type to crave attention from powerful people and all the while he’s on a road trip for MLB. That’s a recipe for disaster.

The change is maybe intentional to take stress off the shoulders and arm? Not throwing across his boy as much and being more direct to the plate?

It could be a couple things
They are purposely telling him to change his mechanics and not throw his hard to save his arm.
He has something wrong that is causing his velocity to slip.
hopefully nothing in his elbow

First, he needs to learn how to get guys out at 95-97 mph and develop his other pitches instead of relying on 100+ mph if he wants a career to be longer than 5-7 years.
Having said that, that's usually an offseason thing. That it is happening now i think indicates injury. I think he has a date with Mr. John pretty soon. But we all knew this would happen. Same as that kid in Milwaukee. You can't pitch like that and last very long.
Or, if you want to throw like that, be a closer.

Well that's stupid... there have been numerous guys over the years that have thrown well into their late 30s without having any arm issues even at throwing at high velocities... I'm convinced that Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens could work into shape and decent set up men and Ryan is nearly 80 and Clemens his 60s. Obviously being a bit sarcastic but the reality is pitchers used to be workhorses and now we have these dressage horses.

Tim Lincecum never had Tommy John surgery during his career. There are some exceptions out there.
