quote:Not sure this will end up the case. Whoever will be in the running will be a high spender team that spends to contend. They will have to give up huge current pieces or their entire farm system. Any current stars will entail expensive contracts that the Pirates do not want to pay for. And if a salary cap materializes for next CBA, giving up a farm system is absolutely not tenable
Whoever lands him in the next two years is going to pay the most expensive trade price in sports history.
He deserves the biggest ransom, but it’s more likely a less fat deal gets done the deadline before he hits the market

Wheeler gave up 4 runs today.
1.83 ERA
2.56 ERA
About 10-11 starts left.
Skenes given up 11 less runs than Wheeler.

Someone on another message board I was on saying Jacob Misiorowski was going to be better than Skenes. I don’t believe that, but Skenes is 1 month younger than Jacob. I didn’t realize that.

1.83 ERA is sick. The fact that he has a shot to NOT win the Cy Young because some might see his W-L record as a factor is awful.

Off to a better start than Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Clayton Kershaw, Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux, Roger Clemons, Sandy Kofaux etc.
Learn to spell and who you’re actually talking about before making asinine posts like this.
Before you start making comparisons maybe consider when these guys pitched. For example, Ryan didn’t have a pitching coach until he got to the Angels.
When Skenes has the number of INNINGS, No hitters, Ks etc. as Ryan or Koufax or pitch the same number of innings, get back to me. These guys not only started but finished their games. Ryan threw harder than he does and did it for 20 years. His FB velo was still at 98+ at 46 years old. have the number of pitches or innings of any of these guys.

It took Nolan Ryan 7 seasons to hit 11 WAR, which Skenes has hit in 45 starts, lol.

Lmao, you’re an uneducated crybaby. Someone got their feelings hurt I said Skenes is on the level as your childhood greats. Every guy I listed had a much slower start to their career than Skenes. Fact. I’m sorry I misspelt one dudes name Mr. spelling police. Get over yourself.

Not to diminish Skenes amazing start but league batting avg today is .245. Just hard to compare different eras.
In 2000 when Pedro Martinez won CY, league avg was .270
Maddux had a 6yr span where he avg 253IP/season
Pitchers now are lucky to see 200IP.

you’re the Pirates, why don’t you just throw out 10 for 500 like the Royals did with Witt Jr
Because he is going to be at 10-750/800 on his second contract. I think the Pirates ride him until they can’t ride him any longer. They aren’t trading him anytime soon. He puts arse in the seats and sells alot of merchandise. Bob Nutting doesn’t care about winning.

You said Thatcher Hurd was just as good as Skenes. What kind of pace is he on?

His W-L record will have almost zero impact. All of his other metrics are off the chart. Ask deGrom about W-L record. If he stays healthy, he’ll win several Cy’s.

The Mets didn’t have a pitching coach his entire time there.
Year 6, his first pitching coach at any level when moving over to the Angels, he started 39 games. THIRTY NINE in which he pitched 284 innings with 329 Ks.
Skenes has pitched in 45 games with 316 Ks and 266 innings. So Skenes is being limited in the number of innings pitched and pitch count. No shame in that but you’re not comparing apples to apples.

Skenes = 1 complete game in 45.
Not hurt but you still have made zero case how to compare these when the coaches didn’t have middle relievers and these guys HAD to start every 3-5 days. It is NOT the same. Pitchers wear down over an entire season. That’s a fact. So wouldn’t you expect them to give up more or lose command later in the season?
Just stop comparing when situations are so much different today than then.
I am the same age as Ryan dumbass. Koufax is KOUFAX AND CLEMENS IS NOT CLEMONS. You don’t know who the frick none of these people are much less even seen them play.

I can look at stats and see. I can look at old games and see. Sorry I’m not 75 years old Grandpa. Take a breather and come back down to Earth. Did you personally meet these guys, and befriend them? You don’t know who the hell they are either. By your logic you can’t compare any player in any sport. God forbid I said Skenes could be an all timer. It’s 8:30, well past your bedtime. I’m surprised you even know how to work a mobile phone, Mr. Keyboard warrior.

Tell him to check the gun's accuracy during Ryan's career vs current iterations. Who in their right mind wants Skenes throwing 100+ pitches for a shitty team anyway.
Posted on 7/27/25 at 11:18 pm to grape nutz
Skenes probably sobbed uncontrollably seeing a 6 in the run column.
