If you win the Heisman, the number is automatically retired. No more hiding it away and pretending it doesn't exist. If LSU doesn't want to do that then issue the numbers each year so there is no expectation that it won't be used. Either way Burrow and Daniels should have statues up ASAP.

Win a national championship and we’ll have a discussion. No retirement for 19-7 QBs.

What if Nuss had won a Heisman and a title last year wearing 18? Would you retire one of the most important numbers in LsU history?

LSU isn’t retiring numbers anymore.

Billy Cannon and Joe Burrow won championships. Jayden Daniels didn’t.

Also, it’s not like 5 was issued to some preferred walk on or freshman. It was given to someone that will leave as an all American and first round pick.

Okay, well then issue the numbers each year so this isn't an issue.

It’s only an issue because of entitlement.

COMPLETELY AGREE. ITS A frickING TEAM SPORT. It makes zero sense to retire a number strictly off of an individual award regardless of what award. I will die on this hill, JD5 had the 2nd best season from the QB in LSU history but he did not have the 2nd greatest season of any LSU player in LSU history. TM7's 2011 season had a larger impact on team success at a position that doesn't touch the ball every play was better than JD5's 2023 season.

This whole thing is stupid and a bad look for JD5 and his camp.

Wrong & dumb. Policy should be “honor” it but keep it in circulation.

There was NEVER any worry about that brother. Yall think WAY to highly of Nuss just because he stayed at LSU.

quote:

Weaknesses: Low-powered mover who'll get chased down quick in the pros... heavier feet and poor torso rotation limit platform fluidity. Not especially comfy in the pocket. Back pedals from edge pressure instead of pushing up into the pocket. Drives his deep ball instead of lofting it, eliminating margin for error. 23% Career Accuracy on throws over 25 yards. Both completely misses and underestimates safeties and linebackers—will be a turnover machine w/o improvement...low touch trajectory invites LBs into the play...9.2% TWP% throwing intermediate. Struggles to find non-schemed up answers in the redzone...throws pick in low red. Too obedient to pre-snap read...limited peripheral vision. Throws into coverage strengths and inconsistently finds answers. Goes large stretches forgoing middle of field. Lives on contested catches, taxing pass-catchers. Compounds mistakes and struggles to expand the offense according to game script. Slow pre-snap process leads to penalties. 6th or 7th round draft grade. More than likely "Gives you a chance" QB3

That's from an NFL Scout. Stop giving every LSU player the P&G Glasses treatment.

For starters, LSU doesn't retire numbers. We retire jerseys and for some reason, we hold them out of ciculation for a while. Next, your logic is that retiring a number, which is recognition of an individual, should only be done if that person was fortunate enough to have enough talent around him to succeed as a team, correct?

If Joe Burrow had the 2023 defense backing him, would he win a natty? And if not, do we retire his jersey b/c he couldn't win the natty with a shitty defense?

I hate to break it to you guys, but if winning a natty is the bar to have the individual recognition of having your number or jersey retired, you might want to alert LSU. They have been doing it wrong for decades. We may have time to stop them from recognizing Bert Jones in November. Bert never sniffed a natty, so I guess he doesn't deserve it.

Thats the point. We don't need to retire numbers. I never said LSU was doing it wrong you're arguing against yourself.

Dude what're you arguing? If LSU retires his "Jersey" or JD5's "jersey" but the number is in circulation then its not a retired number. So there is no issue. The issue is former players or in this case their camp wanting it taken out of circulation and their number being retired. I'm saying no I don't believe they should have their number retired. So again, you're arguing against yourself.

Holy crap dude. His jersey isn't out of circulation. What LSU is doing by retiring "his jersey" its recognizing his career. That is perfectly fine because the number is still in rotation. I swear its like you just want to be a contrarian and argue for the sake of arguing by altering what is being stated.

WTFreak - F—k Daniel’s. Sue him. Ban him from Campus.
Then hope his NFL career goes bust with a career ending injury.
Nobody will even remember him in 5 years.

That's gonna be a problem when we win the next 20 Heismans in a row.
