If Yorke played the full game today, we lose. Pulling him was the right decision

He will continue to start, probably not every game and especially not against lefties for now but he has too much potential to not play. I know he is not playing well now but players don't normally get out of slumps on the bench. Put him in in good pitching matchups and let him get his confidence back. Dude hit almost 30 dingers last year and the wind is about to start blowing out of the south and out of Alex Box. I hope the kid puts it together.

I’d rather figure out a way to get Bide/Serna/Yamin/Braun the playing time.

agreed

Throw away the emotion and disappointment, and just look at it from a baseball perspective and this is still obviously the right thing to do...assuming even average defensive play.

Should he? No. Will he? Yes

Why?

I know JJ can be stubborn about playing guys who are struggling. But with the players I can think of in the past, it was because the player had some other upside. Jordan Thompson’s hitting slump down the stretch in Omaha comes to mind.

But York is struggling everywhere. For the entire SEC season, he’s been a liability at the plate and on defense.

Given how strong Yamin came on today I just can’t see JJ keeping him in there any longer.

There are 2-3 guys who would be an upgrade at this point.

Thought i heard on the broadcast that Simpson was hurt?

Nope. That was the first thing the Asst Coach did once CJJ got tossed. Everyone knows that Yorke is a liability. insane that CJJ keeps playing him

midweek games should be to develop the young guys

I don’t disagree, but we will likely need Yorke if we are to make a push in the postseason, so we need to get Yorke right if possible

Yorke shouldn’t be on a starting lineup card again the rest of the season. Start using these midweek games to get Serna, Yamin, bide, Braun, etc reps at first for the 2nd half of SEC play. He’s become a Major liability at the plate and on 1st.

He very well may, however do not think for a minute that Jay is locked in on him for good...think back to 2023. Jared Jones started 47 games (34 at 1B) and was eventually benched pretty much for good. He only ended up with 4 plate appearances in the entire NCAA tournament that year!

I trust Jay completely, if Yorke plays then he sees some value but I 100% believe there is definitely a point where he will cut bait! It worked out pretty well in 2023.

Just remember how guys like Cowan and Arrambide have been treated this year by the fans when they had poor showings. To a lesser extent, Dardar was written off as well. Grant Fontenot had no role 5 weeks ago.

Don’t give up on talented players. Yorke will be counted upon again at some point.

Caraway seems off and Simpson is hurt

Regardless, Yorke will still get playing time. The question is how much

He's a senior. There's not enough time left in this season for any changes to diet and exercise to have much effect on his performance. That should have been done in the off season. Good suggestion but it's just too late.
It is what it is.

Good post. What sticks out to me is his swing path. He seems to be having trouble barreling up with better caliber velocity. It may have not been obvious against lesser competition but the swing and miss and constant popping up is something that is Jay's wheelhouse and I hope they figure this out. Because he has a great eye at the plate. He just needs to be able to make hard contact on mistakes like Jay preaches and that isn't happening for him. JMHO.

There isn't a player on this team that comes close to Yorke's experience at 1B. His OB% .437 isn't bad. He does add power to the lineup as well.

I have seen Yamin, Pearson and Serna play 1B and it wasn't great.

Arrambide, Simpson (broke thumb) Dardar were decent there but behind Yorke defensively.

Clauss showed soft hands there, but I don't think he is answer either.

Braun makes the most sense but hasn't played there since a sophomore in HS. He does have talent there though.

Our best option is Yorke. Everyone knows hitting can be a strange thing.

As Lester pointed out, the Rant gets going on a narrative and blows it out of proportion. Armchair QB's like to believe they know more than Jay but you don't.

I'm proud of every player that puts on a LSU uniform. Most fans don't have a clue how hard these young men work. They live baseball. Critiquing a player is fine but crapping on one of our own players is a total lack of class. Choose to build up, not tear down one of our own.

He shouldn’t but I’m sure he will. I’d be sure to practice his hitting & fielding skills in practice & even more outside of practice & give him a chance on Tuesday’s to redeem himself but for the time being, give Braun, Yamin, or Pearson a shot at 1B.

but he has too much potential to not play.

He's living proof of how all the potential in the world is only that...potential! The rubber ain't hitting the road at this point in his career.

I know he is not playing well now but players don't normally get out of slumps on the bench.

No, players don't get out of slumps on the bench...they reflect on why they're on the bench and focus on what they must do to get back in the starting lineup. Then they perform when given the opportunity to redeem themselves and help their team.
