Then who would have piggy backed Milazzo out onto the field?

This is the only reason I’m okay with not sending him in to get one out. There was no injury risk to getting one out after all that warming up.

The piggyback will live forever in LSU lore.

No.

It minimizes the importance of the team. To pull him to get the last out is silly, it slows the game down as well.

Skenes had plenty of time in the spotlight. I love the guy, but I liked seeing Guidry finish it up. I wouldnt have minded seeing Herring get in there for the 8th though

No way!

Up by 14, why even consider that?

No. It would have taken the game away from the pitchers who actually did the work. Totally not fair.

No. And by not doing it he accomplished 2 things.

Gave him freshman that extra confidence (not that Guidry needed it) to close out a championship in that moment.

Told every pitcher that Jay may ever recruit that he will not needlessly have you throw pitches unless you are ready to go, are medically cleared to go, and if the team absolutely needs you to go.

Pitching Skenes at the end would have been disrespectful to Florida and rubbing their noses in the loss.

So yes, absolutely should have let Skenes close those bitches out.

No. One it would have looked like show boating as not necessary due to the big lead.

Two Skenes gets injured and the negative PR about the injury would have been the story and not the win

Just putting him out there would bring some criticism.

No, with that lead it would have been a classless act and insult to your opponent and the SEC. JJ didn’t need the negative fallout.

I’m pretty sure he could’ve if he wanted to. Judging by the reaction from his teammates when he showed up in the dugout, they thought he was going in for the ninth. Wouldnt shock me if he declined and let Guidry go finish it.

No there was more value in giving that honor to Guidry who will definitely be a leader on the team next year.

I agree the place would have exploded but I think making sure no freak (Mason Smith DT) accident that could end up costing him millions was the wise decision.

Would have rather seen Crews move to the mound for the last out....just for fun.

They should have brought him out there to throw one lob pitch as a ball, then taken him out for his curtain call.
So reward Guidry for pitching well by pulling him from the game and taking away his opportunity to close out a national championship game just so Skenes can come in and throw one lob?

Not putting in Skenes is like taking a knee at the one yard line with 10 mins left in the game.

Alpha move.
