re: Should Eades just throw from the stretch always?

So you think he pitches better with runners on base vs no runners on base and this improved quality of pitching is due to him throwing out of the stretch? Give me his performance data throwing from windup and throwing from stretch and we will consider your brilliant discovery. Heck maybe the coaches will read the Rant after the game and get it fixed by next week. I will await your data.
I dont have the advanced stats in front of me, but i've watched enough games over the last year and a half to notice the trend. I think anyone who follows the team somewhat closely would see that

Yes, it is. That's why starting pitchers don't throw from the stretch. Some relievers do because they know they will only throw a couple of innings.

No it isn't, I pitched for most of my life, all the way through high school. I've thrown from the stretch and the wind up a ton, it doesn't make any difference. Going from the windup makes it easier to get into a rythym and set yourself up to make a good pitch with good form. But if you know how to throw from the stretch it makes little to no difference

Wow! "All the way through high school"?

The guy made a perfectly acceptable suggestion. If all of those were disallowed every thread on here would go away. What happened here was adam32 just decided to be dicky.

So based on the times you have watched Eades throw and the amount of time the coaching staff has watched him throw you are basically saying they are hurting his effectiveness by letting him throw from the windup. Maybe he could throw a couple of innings in the midweek game to try out your pitching philosophy change. Tiger Nation is grateful for you bringing this undocumented trend to CPM's attention so it can be fixed before postseason.

Yea, wasn't bragging about that, just saying that throwing from te stretch doesn't put more stress on your arm, and if it does it's minimal

Eades puts himself into jams and he's great at getting out of them. Everyone knows that. I like how everyone's being all hard arse and disagreeing. And he's coincidently pitching from the stretch.

I'm not saying Eades should or shouldn't, but it shouldn't put any more stress on the arm than the windup unless the pitcher changes their basic mechanics when in the stretch.

The way he pitches with runners on base could be because he concentrates more on his pitches when he is in trouble.

I don't have a problem with your suggestion. But what specifically does he do better from the stretch.
Does he throw harder? Is his breaking ball better? Is his control better?

No, short relievers do it because they will often enter the game with men on base. If you would be pitching from the stretch as much or more than the windup than it makes sense you'd be more comfortable in the stretch.
Besides, the only way pitching from the stretch puts strain on your arm is if you rush/slide-step...nobody would slide-step with no men on. A pitcher's motion should be exactly the same from the leg kick on anyways, no matter if windup or stretch

Love how my point that eades doesn't really even have a wind up just got ignored.
Posted on 3/31/13 at 12:21 am to josh336
If you are right and I don't think you are then he should be in pen
Do you really think we better with bonvillian as starter rather that eades? And eades as master reliever

I dont see why throwing from the stretch means he needs to be coming out of the pen

I love the way the rant psychoanalyzes Eades a day after he throws 8 shutout innings.

If LSU were 17-9 and 4-4 in SEC play, would it then be okay to make suggestions for improvement

I dont see a noticeable difference in velocity. His curve does seem to have a little more bite. It may not end up helping at all, but i would just like to see if it will help
