Should Burrow "check down" more receivers, rather than locking in on one target?

I noticed this may be a small kryptonite of his. He has the time in the pocket to do so.

Most pass plays, it seems like he has 2 WRs running intermediate to deep routes and the rest of the unit helping in pass protection. Who exactly is he supposed to check down to?

Why don't you walk up to him at practice today and tell him that.

Joe said in an interview that each receiver has a route on each play that beats a certain coverage. That's probably why it seems he locks on to a receiver, because he knows where the ball is supposed to go against a certain defense.

Have you noticed how many different receivers caught the ball the last two games?

Drew Breese does it all the time. Burrow in his 4th start as a college quarterback should know better.

This was his answer on the TD pass vs Auburn. He said there were two safeties up top and he threw it where the ball is supposed to go against that defense.

I've noticed the opposite. He'll often lock on to one and then go the opposite side.

bingo. if we have route combos and routes that beat man and zone great but he needs a checkdown.

you can even open up seam routes against cover 2 man under by running a streak on outside making safety on that side of field choose. go to guy in man coverage without safety help. seam or go.

he did on the two point conversion at auburn. we needed brossete to release being there were only 4 rushers and LB's had dropped into coverage. the deep In guy on far right woulda been open had he not fell down.

regardless whther he has looked off a safety(which i saw against la tech) he is still learning to go through progressions quickly

frick that. Take shots. I love O’s philopshy- give me 10 a game, we have the freakshows to make plays.

Think about last year against Bama. Danny missed 3 shots down the field where our guys blew past theirs.

Also a part of me wants to see our guys abuse Surtain and Savion.

This is designed by Ensminger and for a relatively new QB, it’s not a bad call. Part of the reason he hasn’t thrown an INT is because he isn’t checking down. He’s great at throwing the ball away when his target isn’t open and so far it’s worked well for us.

Are you for real? You expect Joe to perform like Drew after 4 whole starts in college?
