I'm guessing that's somewhat heavier than his ideal, but that's certainly a playable weight for a true nose tackle. Looking forward to seeing him this year for large number of snaps per game

340 is right where they wanted him at this time I believe. He'll continue to lose weight in camp before the season.

He will give us the depth we need at the position.

Think it is normal to show up heavy for camp knowing players typically will lose weight going thru the rights of camp.

He'll have to maintain that weight throughout the season, which will be more difficult than doing it during the offseason.

That's fair, if he hits the season opener at 325-330 I bet the coaches will be ecstatic

Do you mean this in a good way?

This is a good weight for Tyler and can only mean he is serious about contending for punt return duties.

I mean 340 is high, but shouldn't hinder him too much. It's always more tough for these bigger guys to keep the weight off during the season though. Almost all of them put some weight back on from the start of the season through the finish.

Shelvin will need to maintain that weight to be a factor all season IMO.

ETA: If he gets up around 350-355 lbs. he won't be able to play the snaps LSU needs him to. It's what kept him from doing it last year.

This would be perfect.

The coaches will be ecstatic at this.

That number is kind of a best case scenario.

Don't see why.

330-350 is just fine.

He was at 360 last year and it severely limited his number of snaps. 350 is not going to be fine. Weight is the only thing that has kept him off of the field up to this point. This year is no different.

That’s fantastic. At this same point last season, he was a Caniac meal from Raising Cane’s away from being 400 pounds.

That dude was 4 bills last year regardless of what the SID office said he was
He’s noticeably thinner at 360

I am not so sure. If he lost 20 lbs of FAT and put on 10 lbs of muscle...I see that as a much better situation than just losing 10 lbs.

So, "weight" alone isn't enough to judge. But, that weight is a great sign for him.

So we can’t trust them when they said he was 360, but can when they say he’s 340?

Terrance Cody was 360-370, and was two inches taller. His weight made him a situational player.

Vince Wilfork played around 325-330 for most of his career. That should be Shelvin’s ideal weight. If he starts getting to 340+, he’s going to continue to have problems.

ETA: Saying a big man who’s had weight issues throughout his entire life has to maintain a good playing weight throughout the season isn’t some profound declaration. It’s pretty much common sense.

340 pounds is right at the threshold of what is a good playing weight for him. LSU really needs him to put in 25-30 quality snaps per game, and that’s a minimum.
