If his classes were re-ranked it would destroy the "Orgeron signed top 5 classes every year" narrative.

Of course you have Chase and Marshall at the top-end but the rest of that class is mediocre by LSU/SEC standards and close to half never contributed meaningfully.

Over the last 3 seasons only Alabama, Georgia and LSU have had top 5 ranked classes in each of those years. If you extend the rankings a bit further, the top 5 schools over that 3 year time period are (on average): Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio St, Clemson. Four of those programs are in the hunt annually for playoff spots (though Clemson is struggling this season).

So it begs the question: Are LSU's last three recruiting classes GROSSLY overrated while the other schools who annually rank in the top 5 accurately ranked? Or is it more likely a case of those other schools having competent coaches coaching and developing that talent whereas LSU has wasted the last two seasons with a buffoon in charge who has hired FOUR coordinators over the last two years who has ZERO market demand as coordinators whatsoever?

Recruiting is a HUGE part of the equation. No one will deny that. But you can just run star players out on the field and expect them to be great. LSU is paring top 5 talent with bottom 5 (relative to P5 conferences) coaching. The results? .500 record.

Obviously including Dare on D is a bit deceiving.

Beyond that we were seriously short handed on linemen so we had to take some fliers.

ETA: and Chasen Hines too.

Amazing he and Derek have kept this myth alive

It's one of those things that is repeated enough so people just assume it is fact. Hell, even with all of this evidence out there people still spout it off as if it's true.

Yeah it shows how people melt like pussies as soon as things go wrong. 2018 class brought a National Championship. Burrow, Chase, and Marshall all in 2018. Even Cole Tracy. Ed O sucks but 2018 was good for LSU.
Nope it just shows how much a dumbass this fanbase (you) continue to be. LSU fans had no problems with the 4 and 5 stars, it was the ridiculous amount of 3 stars, and not "under the radar 3 stars", but straight average looking 3 star players we kept piling up. Even then we had morons like you clamoring that we had "so many underrated guys". That 2018 class is the reason for the problems right now. The 2017 class was was one of the best classes from any program in recent memory, but then it was followed up with one of the worst classes in recent LSU history. That class provided zero depth. It provided no good defensive players outside of what Clarke is doing this year. Two of the best players in that class transfered to Kentucky before they could breakout here.

We obviously did not worry about character which is why we are where we are today. We also did not place much emphasis on intelligence either.

BINGO!!! Intelligence and character. Development is lacking also but it helps to start with these traits. Joe Burrow was going to be successful because he has these in spades, along with his physical talent.

I can sum up the 2018 class with 2 statements:

Statement 1: Without that 2018 class 2019 never happens.

Statement 2: Without that 2018 class 2021 never happens.

So that 2018 class made Orgeron a rich fired frick.

Would I take 2020 and 2021 to get 2019? Hell yeah.
Did it HAVE to have 2020 and 2021 to get 2019? Hell no.

2019 is a pinnacle. But we didn't have to fall off a cliff on the walk down.

So Marshall, Chase, Lewis, etc. weren’t “good” for LSU and integral to winning a championship? You people…

You should probably try to find a Iowa State board to comment on. We're not interested in your opinion. STFU

And that was the class before COVID-19 when you could evaluate talent in your camps and in person. Orgeron massively failed.

Ironic that he was promoted from interim because of his “recruiting abilities” and that was his first full class. He was also on the staff as recruiting coordinator since 2015 so it’s not like he needed time to form relationships
