Rumors of drinking issues
Not recruiting actively
Relied too heavily on portal
Indignant demeanor
Inability to see that Sloan was not ready to be OC

1) Coaching at ND is very different from coaching a P conference or more specifically an SEC team. At ND you play 3-4 ranked teams per year the rest of the games are against mediocre teams. Gives you the opportunity to jump out ahead most games and rest then begin resting your starters so have less injuries down the road.

2) In the SEC as well as the other P conferences a number of the games against untrained opponents are rivalry games which boosts the competition level. Not generally the case with an independent.

BK’s tenure at ND failed to prepare him for 1 & 2.

3) Early on BK stated he was against using the portal. But all one has to do is tune into any game and within 10-15 minutes they’ll hear the broadcast team talking about one of the playmakers for that particular game having training this season for somewhere. The portal is an integral part of college football whether we like or not. If a team is going to be successful the HC better know how to maximize the portal and have donors lined up to support his decisions.

4) When given the backing to move mountains in the portal you better damn well be capable of using them effectively. BK was pretty given everything including the kitchen sink for the portal this past off season. We know what those retrace been.

5) it’s unrealistic to believe the HC can run every single aspect of the game personally. So the HC needs a top quality staff who are great at managing whatever aspect of the game that is their responsibility. Talent is not the problem. LSU doesn’t hand out jerseys to journeymen players. If they can’t get it done then the plan sucked.

6) It took 3.5 seasons for BK to realize it wasn’t the players fault. Unfortunately the decision maker’s patience ended before he had that epiphany.

Year 1
Great decision to bring in JD5
Made a terrible DC hire
Bad defense thru portal
Year 2
He couldve won a title had his DC hire been better.
Year 3
Good offense and new DC saw a much improved defenseive scheme. Just didnt have enough quality def players
Year 4
The expectations were really high. Couple last seasons offense with a much better def....playoffs were the expectations

OL is a disaster and trotting out an injured immobile qb that is scare in the collapsing pocket.
Coupled with play calling with no creativity to help the bad OL and immobile qb. Plus not mixing in a mobile qb to keep the def guessing or maybe being bold enough to pull Nuss and play MVB. Seeing the coaches repeat the same thing expecting it would work this time was mind numbing.

Sorry for the rant. Well actually it is the rant forum....so im not sorry.

Year one of house was fine and most people were overall happy with him. It soured but it wasn’t a bad hire out of the gate.

Now Polian was a fricking disaster literally from game 1. Kelly never really got quality, consistent STs play though. Probably took 2-3 wins off the board for him over the years

His generation of great coaches hate the current State of the game . They were program builders who relied on 3-5 yrs guys completely buying in. This Shitshow thats been created is a pathetic joke. He’s got to be having thoughts of hanging it up. I could see an orchestrated resignation in the next 18 months.

Yeah I’d be surprised if he takes another job, I think he’s headed for media.

Which he wouldn’t be mad at, he’s actually very good at talking football when it’s not a post game presser where he’s acting like an a-hole defending the indefensible

I think he was probably burned out before he ever set foot on LSU‘s campus.

The job at Notre Dame requires an intense amount of national recruiting, which means getting on a plane constantly and flying all over the country.

I think he believed that if he hired good assistants and ran the program like a CEO, he could have continued the success in his career with less work and less drain on himself personally. What he discovered was the opposite. Competing in the SEC is a 24-7-365 proposition for a head coach and I just don’t think he had it in him anymore.

when you consider, he is a 30+ year head coach who is accustomed to recruiting young men and developing them for four years, in this new world you have to re-recruit your own players. Kelly is obviously not a people person and that was a tall order for him to maintain roster continuity. So his assistant coaches were everything. And he made some really bad choices.

I think he thought it would be easy. He would buy as much talent as he could and coast. When it didnt work he stopped giving a shite

Probably burned out but didn’t fully know it. Early on, he did seem determined to show everyone this was BK 2.0 and he was highly motivated to get that ring.

I don’t think he took the job as a cash grab initially.

I also believe his plan was to lean heavily on Polian as his personnel guy but then was forced to fire him because he sucked.

I don’t think BK knew what it was until he got here.

I don’t think Scott Woodward knew who BK really was until he got here
