Research the law firm representing Kelly. That firm is one of the most prestigious law firms in the US. Best of the best. They know exactly what they are doing.
re: When Saban is named the new HC, will he bring Moffitt back to BR?
Posted by DSPurpleandGold on 11/3/25 at 1:05 pm to LSUsmartass
Best thread about Saban so far. I’d be very, very surprised if he returned to coaching let alone LSU.
One of the main reasons he “retired” was the portal and NIL. He made very clear his dislike for that and it’s effect on NCAAF.
He’s extremely wealthy from both paid salaries as well as outside investments. So he certainly doesn’t need the money.
He’s gotta a tremendous legacy. Why would he risk tarnishing that if he’d didn’t win another natty in the few years he’d coach at LSU?
Yet, for some reason there are people who not only believe he’d come back to LSU they are adamant that will happen.

1) Coaching at ND is very different from coaching a P conference or more specifically an SEC team. At ND you play 3-4 ranked teams per year the rest of the games are against mediocre teams. Gives you the opportunity to jump out ahead most games and rest then begin resting your starters so have less injuries down the road.
2) In the SEC as well as the other P conferences a number of the games against untrained opponents are rivalry games which boosts the competition level. Not generally the case with an independent.
BK’s tenure at ND failed to prepare him for 1 & 2.
3) Early on BK stated he was against using the portal. But all one has to do is tune into any game and within 10-15 minutes they’ll hear the broadcast team talking about one of the playmakers for that particular game having training this season for somewhere. The portal is an integral part of college football whether we like or not. If a team is going to be successful the HC better know how to maximize the portal and have donors lined up to support his decisions.
4) When given the backing to move mountains in the portal you better damn well be capable of using them effectively. BK was pretty given everything including the kitchen sink for the portal this past off season. We know what those retrace been.
5) it’s unrealistic to believe the HC can run every single aspect of the game personally. So the HC needs a top quality staff who are great at managing whatever aspect of the game that is their responsibility. Talent is not the problem. LSU doesn’t hand out jerseys to journeymen players. If they can’t get it done then the plan sucked.
6) It took 3.5 seasons for BK to realize it wasn’t the players fault. Unfortunately the decision maker’s patience ended before he had that epiphany.

BK’s process
Posted by DSPurpleandGold on 11/19/24 at 11:56 am
From his comments regarding the Vandy game:
"We have a process in place and we have to stick with our process, and maybe there are things you have to tweak within that. And that's how I've operated for over 34 years," Kelly said about the loss to Florida. "I'm certainly gonna feel the pain of our entire state when we are not successful."
Perhaps someone needs to tell him his process is so fundamentally flawed no amount of “tweaking” is going to fix this train wreck. Instead he needs to develop a new process much sooner than later.

At the moment we don’t have any recruits just verbal commitments. I’ll be much happier when they actually enroll. A lot can happen between then and now. Let’s hope this train wreck of a season don’t dissuade them from coming.

Perhaps the people who offered the deal should be handed their walking papers as well.

Underwood is only a verbal commitment. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already considering going elsewhere. Why would he want to come to this dumpster fire?

First need to dispel some false narratives.
1) Overall lack of talent.
Wouldn’t have beaten Ole Miss and South Carolina without a better than average level of talent.
Sure it could be better but it’s far from the worst.
2) Portal
Winning teams do what winning teams do. Refusal to utilize EVERY available resource to improve one’s team indicates an unwillingness to do what it takes to reach the top.
3) Build through recruiting
NIL deals have, for the most part, ended the practice of an elite player beginning and ending his career playing for a single team.
Those players will most likely test the waters each year. Who can blame them? Best to earn as much as one can when one can. Never know when a career ending injury also ends their ability to earn an athletic based income stream.
4) Couldn’t have landed BK without a 10 year guaranteed contract.
No problem. Find someone else. There were plenty of other potential hires from both collegiate and NFL teams.
I’m sure some of the “unavailable” coaches would have entertained a $12M a year, five year deal.
If that hire floundered the buyout would have been considerably less than the one currently forcing LSU to hold onto in lieu of a $70M buyout.
Harry Truman is famous for saying “The buck stops here.”
In this case the buck stops at SW’s and BK’s feet. Both need to geaux.

Let me see if I have this correct….
1) The sun, the moon, the stars, the northern lights, Pluto and Youranus as well as all of the other planets and God knows what else has to line up.
2) We somehow win out (I’m hopeful but not holding my breath).
This leads to LSU getting the number 2 seed to the SECCG.
We show up in Atlanta and once more get our asses handed to us because we can’t tackle. We don’t jam receivers on the line which would give our line more time to pressure the QB. We can’t open a hole so our RB can rush the ball creating a dual threat that would force the defense to commit to defending both the run and the pass. We have a QB who is afraid to take a hit so he panics every time he’s in the pocket.
I’ll be happy if we simply win out then go to a mid tier bowl we can win and start working on fixing what’s broken so we do better next year.

Nobody is going to get a Tiger back in Tiger Stadium. Not the Rant, Not Landry, Not Trump, Not God Himself. It's over. What all this will accomplish is assuring that this is the last Tiger LSU will ever have. The entities that have Tigers available will no longer trust LSU's assurances because the LSU situation is unstable. Nobody HAS to give or sell us a Tiger. It wasn't a sure thing we got the last one or the one before that. It's not a sure thing we will get another one. We'll have to walk a fine line to even have a chance. And Landry is screwing it up, with help from the nimrods in the LSU fan base. He never would have thought of this if somebody hadn't given him the idea it could distract voters from the shitty job he's doing.
IIRC only one or two organizations were willing to provide a tiger the last time LSU went looking. In addition I seem to recall it was conditioned on not bringing him into the stadium on game day.
If that is in fact the case bringing him in would probably mean we’d never get another tiger and may very well have to surrender him if such an agreement exists.
Don’t really think his mostly meaningless presence in the stadium outweigh the risk of being without a Tiger.
re: Did BK misunderstand or not realize the level of expectations here?
Posted by DSPurpleandGold on 9/8/24 at 11:42 am to John Casey
Not at all. Use incentives to make him the highest paid. If he performs he makes measurably more than any coach. If not then he’s paid for what he does produce. If LSU ends up in the middle of the pack then he’s paid about half of what the coach who wins the title game is paid.

A fully guaranteed $10M a year 10 year contract is ridiculous to give any coach. I can see guaranteeing a much smaller base say a $1M or $2M with the remainder being incentivized.
No reason to guarantee mediocrity when you’re paying those amounts for a high level of expectation.

Jump Ole Miss???
For that to happen PSU has to not just beat Ole Miss, they will need to dominate them. A close game probably won’t move LSU above Ole Miss because of the debacle on 9/30. So I’m not sure I’d take that bet.
On the other hand, PSU will take the field and be ready to play. Ole Miss is not so predictable. If they don’t bring their A game PSU make Ole Miss look like old piss. If that happens then it’s possible LSU would jump them. But only is LSU has an excellent day.

What does this solve?
My best guess it’s a prelude to some sort of salary cap. To do so creates a monopoly that controls wages. But, what about the NFL? They do it so why not colleges?
It works in the NFL because the players who ARE EMPLOYEES are represented by a players union who has hammered out a collective bargaining agreement with the owners that the players have voted to accept.
College athletes are not employees of any university. So they don’t have a union to bargain for a working agreement with non-existent employers.
So to facilitate this the NCAA member schools will have to add a bunch of employees who then join a union. But wait and correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t most state employees already part of a part of a public employee’s union that has exclusive rights to negotiate on their behalf? Since this influx of players are now employees won’t that make them eligible for employee benefits like health ins, pension, etc…. Oh let’s not forget that since they are now public employees all student athletes regardless of sport will also need to be made employees. I mean how many Democrats are going to vote to allow male football players to become employees and entitled to all the benefits if the members of the girl’s volleyball team don’t get equal treatment. But, there’s even more. If athletes can be employees why not the band? I mean the perform on the same field.Cheerleaders? Dance team:
Said once and I’ll say it again. Dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.

I’ve seen some dumb ideas, but this has to rank near if not at the top of that list.
In order for a PUBLIC university to manage those funds they must have some sort of control of them. For them to control those funds they would in some way have to become at least quasi-public funds.
Once that money enters that area, every elected member of a state’s legislature is going to try to exercise some sort of control. There will be those who will attempt to tap them to shore up some budget shortfall. Others will try to use them to create some new entitlement. They will also be used as leverage to get someone to vote a certain way or they will vote against dispersing the funds.
On the other hand, it would be as Edwin Edwards once said “sweeter than a full pardon” for private schools like Notre Dame who aren’t beholden to elected officials.
Run, run away very fast.
