Do they wear wireless earpieces like the NFL referees do? If so, the league could have told him through his ear to wipe away the out because they had a preferred outcome in mind.

The guy fricked it up but really???

If that's the case why didn't they side with SC when the pitcher realized he was out of time and tried to play it off as an earpiece malfunction??

You wiuldt think they would have reversed that too if they had an outcome preferred

Did he address the batter stepping out of the box?

That’s the issue if he saw Neal interfere why didn’t he make the call when it happened? Why wait when he’s 5feet away from the play to speak to the other umps that are at least 60 feet away?

I guess you could say, the ump's judgment was in err.

how about the runner NEVER touched home plate, regardless.

So the options at this point since he didn’t make the judgement call on the spot

1) heard another field umpires view/judgement (how the frick would they be able to see Neal’s toe maybe being a millimeter in front of the plate) or

2) he replayed it in his head after the SC coach complained and he overturned his own judgment call minutes after the play which is completely asinine and ridiculous

If it’s not challengeable and judgement call why can they change their minds minutes later?

Umps deserve to be roasted and have to answer for it.

exactly. it's total bullshite.

Red herring. That’s not against the rules given their interpretation of them. Again, it was the least of the screwups, and not a screwup at all.

That was my thought. They called the guy out. If the play isn’t reviewable, it’s over. The rest is technicalities.

Hated the frick up and hated the call.... but I will say it's refreshing to at least see a ref behind the mic and explain himself regardless if we agree with it. I wish more sports had that

Except he didn't. He flat out said that the play is not reviewable, when a review to overturn the call of out is exactly what happened. He never explained the situation; he just made up a totally imaginary situation where the call would have been correct, and explained that situation, rather than address the situation that actually occurred in this game.

It was not challengeable or reviewable but they changed the play call anyway.

Regardless of your desired outcome THIS is the primary problem of today. Call was made on non reviewable play yet they still changed the call.

It’s not a pitch when there is no batter in the box. Doesn’t matter where the pitcher is. They fricked it up. They will never add this little detail in their explanation. They should never have done the umpire interview. It was a terrible move on the SEC part to save face. Karma took care of it then they dove head first into the pile of shite.
