In the last 5 games every team LSU has played has shot above their season average as well. Three of the five shot atleast 10% above their season average.

It sounds like we had some injuries and were short on bodies...

So Auburn shoots 41% and Kentucky shoots 50% and yet we are still in a dog fight with both of those teams.

It tells me that if we get healthy, develop some depth, and defend the three better, we have the ability to make a deep post-season run.

wow. eye opening. that confirms that we have a problem, not that we didn't already know it. But wow, somehow we have a great knack of vastly improving opponent's ability to hit threes. Unbelievable.

The reason LSU was in a dog fight with both is because despite the horrendous defense, LSU is an elite offensive team.

As far as health and depth, we're 27 games into the season. The depth is what it is and they aren't going to be able to get much "healthier". EVERY team is beat up by this point in the season. The question is can this team become 20% better defensively from this point on? That's about the max amount of improvement you can ask for.

LSU held USC to their lowest FG% in a month and their lowest FG% at home in SEC play this season. That INCLUDES the run late that LSU allowed. We got a glimpse of what this team can do when they defend just a little bit. LSU had a 19 point lead with 5:00 to go vs a team who hadn't lost at home in nearly two months.

Now, can they bring that same effort vs. UF, who is a much, MUCH better offensive team than USC?

Yeah, that's the big question, can Will be able to keep them focused and the players put forth the great effort to the defensive side each and every game. The 20% better on defense would have won a couple of the games, possibly more, they lost recently. Just better communication on screens would have won a couple of the games.

I would count it as 6 approximately at season average or below, and 8 significantly above.

Get Manning back up to speed in the rotation, and they now have an extra 4-5 fouls to give.
Now, they can take a bit more risk in pressuring the ball and taking away those pull up jumpers.

It's hard to overstate how playing short-handed has hurt their defensive intensity.

So pretty close to 50/50 then huh? And take out the USCEe number since I made my comment BEFORE THEN and it’s not so crazy huh?

I think part of the problem is teams go into the game with a ton of confidence knowing we give up high 3pt %. And then that manifests into them shooting well. It’s like a self fulfilling prophesy.

I'd be interested to know how many times Kentucky and/or Tennessee have shot 50 percent from 3 against an SEC team.

Manning’s return to form will help.

Added Florida. Despite shooting horribly in the 1st half, their 43% 3 point shooting performance moved them up a good bit on the list.

Coming into the game Florida was shooting 34.2% from 3. So its another game where we allowed the opponent to shoot nearly 10 percentage points above their average.

Last night vs Florida was a microcosm of what has happened in several games where the opponent has shot an abysmal three point percentage for the first half and sometimes for 30 to 35 minutes. Then they suddenly cannot miss from long range and hit 6 for 7 or some such run at some point in the game.

Kentucky had one three pointer at half then made six in the first ten minutes of the second half. Auburn had a similar run at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Florida was 2 for 11 at half last night and then went 7 for 10 in the second half. This may be the result of not having much depth with the injuries as much as it is a systemic problem.
