The 3s Florida shot in the 1st half were just as wide open as they were in the 2nd half. If you know what positions to be in on defense you won’t burn up all your energy constantly chasing the ball.

interesting. But its more fun to blame Joe Alleva. Plus you get a lot of "upvotes" if you blame him and defend Wade.

It seems like every team we play shoots 80% from 3 pt range in the 2nd half.

What strikes me is that LSU has turned their games into 3 point shooting games with their defense. So they need to shoot 3 point shooting better and defend it better.

IMO they also need to play better in the first 4-5 minutes in each half.

It is not that we are out of position. Most of the time it is our inability to stay in front of ball handlers, which requires other defenders to collapse creating kick out three point opportunities. Are there a few times we are out of position, yes, but that's not what is killing us.

This may be the result of not having much depth with the injuries as much as it is a systemic problem.

This year LSU is (on average) allowing exactly ONE more three pointer per game (~9) than they allowed in each of Wade's first two seasons (~8). Knowing that, what's more likely? An aberration due to bad luck with respect to injuries OR a systemic problem?

The reality is that NONE of Wade's LSU teams have been good at defending the three (with this year's version being the worst). However, that fact got looked over because there were (understandably) very low expectations in year 1 and in year 2 LSU was able to more often than not end up on the winning side of numerous close games. In year 3 the expectation level has risen (which is a credit to Wade), BUT LSU hasn't been as fortunate in the close game as they were last season. Thus, light is now being shed on a deficiency that was always present, but overlooked because the end result was going in LSU's favor more often than not.

LSU's defensive woes under Wade have always been there. We, as fans just simply chose to ignore them because the overall results far exceeded the expectation level. That's not to say Wade has done a bad job overall. Clearly he hasn't. But it does show there is a systemic deficiency that needs to be addressed

You make good points. However, the current makeup of the team and the injuries and depth problems may not allow them to fix those deficiencies. Every team usually has to try to mask their weaknesses. The strategy works well enough for LSU most of the time as they can control the boards unless the opponent is approaching 40% on three point shots. If they can keep it below 35% they can outscore most opponents.

Manning and Taylor are their best perimeter defenders and have the quickness and leaping ability to get out on long range shooters, both have missed extended time. Without both in the lineup its difficult to address the issue Getting the double bye could be crucial as it would give them a few days off to recharge before starting post season.
